  • I want a MANAGER to give me my check.

Yesterday was payday. I wanted to get my check when I got off, but they were too busy, so I figured I would get it today. I came in today 10 minutes before my shift started and went to wait in the crew room. Well one of coworkers comes back there and says "Do you want this?". I looked at it, and it was my check. I'm pissed that the manager gave her my check to bring to me. Other people have no business knowing how much I make, and I don't ask what others make either. Checks are kept locked in a drawer on front counter and only a manager can unlock it to get an employee's check. What the hell was she thinking letting a coworker bring me my check?

Your workplace doesn't put paycheques in envelopes? Odd. I'd thought that was standard practice pretty much everywhere. Kinda sucky of the manager to just be passing around people's cheques like that.

My co-worker would sometimes hand me my check when she was looking for hers. Didn't much bother me. I was standing right there, after all.

But I can understand how you can feel protective about it. Maybe you should speak to your manager about it.

All my checks have always come in an envelope too. I find it odd that yours doesn't.

Yeah, talk to your manager about it. Because that is no ones business. Unless you want them want to share it.

              Mine too.

Where I work, we're practically forboden to speak of what we earn individually, as we all do basically the same job, but depending on how long you've been here, how many raises you've earned, what your starting salary was, if you get a shift premium, etc etc etc.... some of us earn a significant amount more than others, and they don't like people trying to figure it out.

Where I work, only service desk employees can give employees their checks. Our checks are attached to our statements and don't come in envelopes either.

Seriously...no envelopes? That's just begging for trouble.

Our checks (or stubs, for those of us with direct deposit) are in tab-sealed envelopes.

OMG, what if your co-worker was on drugs and he/she took your check?

Just because a person does drugs doesn't make them a thief. The OP seemed more concerned with her privacy and the seemingly flippant attitude of the manager towards her money. Let's not go down this path.

Up until we eliminated paper checks, our checks did not come in an envelope.

They were a sealed packet with perforations on three sides. You tore off the little strips on those three edges and it opened up into your check and your check stub.

Now you have to choose between direct deposit, which I <3, or having your pay put on a "totalpay" card and you have to go to an ATM to access your money. I do not know of anybody at my store who uses the totalpay card.

Most companies have a strict policy regarding salary information.

Any breech of confidentiality on the behalf of management is usually a firing offense.
Just because a customer expects you to put some effort into your job, that does not make them an SC.

at my store they have a lot of employees, so our pay checks are sent to us in a box, which is locked in a drawer in personnel, and personnel hands them out until they leave, and after that management has to get it

They kind of are the envelope. We have one customer that pays with those. They're annoying to have to deal with.
