The store I work at is a very well known electronics retailer. We try to establish goodwill and comradery (sp?) with other local businesses by offering huge discounts to them and in exchange, we receive great discounts too, but also very high paying, repeat customers.
One of which is a local pizza shop. We gave this place a great deal on GPS units for their drivers. Every now and then, we order pizza for the whole store (about 150-200 employees). They usually offer a good deal, and they deliver the pizzas every 2 hours for us so all employees can benefit from pizza prizes.
Well, today was one such day. The driver comes in (about 6 feet tall and wide as a brick house.) He proceeds to plop his huge bag of pizza boxes onto my desk...Mistake #1: don't put shit on my desk and block my view of the store. He DEMANDS that I pay him immediately so that he can leave. I tell him that I am not the one who ordered the pizzas and that I would page a manager to take care of him. The manager was dealing with a customer issue at the returns desk, so it took her a few minutes to come. Five minutes max. The guy starts yelling and cursing about "how dare you make me wait here for you!", "I'll be back in 2 hours, and it better not take this long next time!" The manager blew it off, hoping we would get a new driver the next time around.
We didn't. He comes in and does the same thing: drops the pizzas on my desk and blocks my view. I ask him to please step aside and wait for the manager. I mean, honestly does he expect me to have over $100 cash on me that I can just whip out and hand to him? He refuses and starts taking the pizzas out of the warming bag. I page a manager, who is now dealing with a bigger customer issue. She says it will be five minutes. I tell this to him. "TWO MINUTES!!!" he yells. "I will leave in 2 minutes and give these pizzas to my manager and we will never deliver here again!" I tell him once again, that if it takes two minutes, great. Otherwise, he will have to wait because I have no jurisdiction over the pizzas. He proceeds to GLARE at me for the rest of the time, until the manager comes. Do you know how hard it is to do Loss Prevention when there is an unmoving brick house of a man standing, glaring at you and refusing to move? Manager comes and apologizes for taking so long. He proceeds to yell at her (an innocent 20 year old girl) and tell her that he waited 15 minutes for her, he shouldn't be here for more than one minute, and the pizza place would never deliver to us again.
Store manager calls the pizza place right away and explains this to pizza place manager. Pizza place manager is dumbfounded, sends us ten free pizzas for goodwill, and a new driver who apologizes profusely telling us he will never deliver pizzas to us again.
