  • New "custoemr friendly" policies

I just found out what the meaning behind this post was. It seems the company is going through a re branding, a whole new vision.

    Cue Jaws music......

After many, many, many years they are trying to bring several departments up to par with other stores. Compared to our competion, which has a deli and a expansive prepared foods department, where they will make sandwiches for you on the spot, and make the stuff in store, we have nasty fried food under a heat lamp all day. We have a deli where they will do their best to ship us as much pre-cooked crap as possible.

The scariest part is the new logo and the the new uniforms, er, Logo Wear. One of the new colors they have picked for the new uniform is PURPLE!

Now they also are planning a new return/customer service "policy." From the initial information I have heard it is a basically got a receipt, got the product, no question back (as long as its under a certain value, after that it only requires a manager to say yes.) Also, if you have SC who wants to violate any policy, as long as it does not violate any laws) we are supposed to give them want the want. They say it will be easier, yes, easier for rude asshole to get what they want. For example, if you feel you waited in line too long, and the SC wants something for free, they get it, even if the wait was 30 seconds. They want us to keep the custoemr happy.

I'm so so so sorry. They have no idea what they have just done. The consequences of such a decision is going to have major consequences. Something tells me you'll have many "happy SC" stories from now on. Again I'm so sorry!

Which chain is that, now? I'm going to go demagnetize the card I have that's expiring next week and get some free groceries because 'the machine must be broken'.

I kid! I kid! Please don't hurt me!!!

There's a grocery store chain that's going to be opening a store in my city this fall.

Their website proclaims they operate on "the boomerang theory"--every decision they make is based on the question "Will it bring the customer back?"

        Translated: They're Shangri-La for SCs.

That's just an invitation for customer abuse. You think they get nasty now? Just wait.

                  That would be it.

People who've been to one of their stores seem to think they're really nice, and it will be good to have the variety in this town, but I don't think I'd want to work there.

Scarily, a former CEO of ours thought we should be more like them in terms of customer service.

                        Even scarier possabality....

Another policy (i use the term loosely in this case) rumor that is floating around, supposedly several emails have bees sent about this is that to make checkout "hassle free" is that if a customer claims a item rang up wrong we are supposed to give it to them for the price that said it was, THEN when you have break in customers cheek to see if they lied.

                        Imagine the conversation....(assuming normal customer)

                        Cashier: *scanning items*
C: That <item> rang up wrong
Cashier: *stops scanning* Do you know what it was supposed to be.
                        C: $1.99
                        Cashier: *manually enters 1.99*
C: Wow, you didn't even check. won;lt you get in trouble?
                        Cashier: No, it is policy.
C: Wow. *thinking: what idiot decided this would be a good idea*

                        Now, imagine the conversation....(assuming EW/SC)

SC: *Places items on belt* <item> is supposed to be X.XX
Cashier: *Scans item, sees "incorrect" price voids and enters "correct" price
Repeat several times as SC sees fit.
SC: That is a very good policy. *thinking: i am scammign this sore out of so much money, and they encourage it*

Now, I fear this may be real as we are supposed to receive a upgrade of the POS system, which will feature a new "keyboard system" for the cashier. Our current setup makes this almost impossible to do with out also tracking inventory. No details as to the specifics of if it a a touch-screen or regular keyboard.

If this is really going to happen, why bother with prices or sales when you let the customer decide how much to pay. I hope this doesn't happens, but knowing how dumb the corporate people can be it wouldn't shock me. To be fair some of the new polices actually make sense, like two, out of a hundred.

They still exist? There were several of them in my area, but the last one closed at least a decade ago.

Matt - will you PM me the name of the store? If there are any in my area, I will refuse to shop there, and no I'm not kidding.

As if we needed further proof that idiot management and higher-ups are the main reason that SC's are so rampant and muliplying, here it is - in all itsfucked-up glory.

The sad part is that when this 'experiment' inevitably fails (results in lower profits), the stores will undoubtedly blame their employees rather than place the blame where it belongs - on themselves.

                              Disgusting.
