  • Do your job! (wherein I suck, just a bit, I hope)

I'm one of the few people where I work who sees the cleaning crew. They generally do a superb job, and even go above and beyond what, IMO, they should be doing. They wash the dishes that the lazy slobs in the building leave in the break room and even clean out the refrigerator once a month. As a general rule, I have nothing but praise for them.

    However...

Lately, my counterpart (he works the opposite nights that I do) decided all on his own to tell them that they don't have to come into our office to get trash, and that he, or we will place the cans by the door for them.

Now, we don't close our door, at least I don't. I doubt he does, but who knows, so there is no reason why they can't walk the 3 feet or so to empty them, and I refuse to do so. They get paid to do this, I do not.

Perhaps I'm being a snob, or just being an SC myself, but I cannot see any reason for it.

I've tried getting them to empty the cans, but after a week goes by, I end up having the flag one of them down and drag them into the office to point out the still-full cans. I can only do this much because I don't speak Spanish, and none of them seem to know much, if any, English.

Tonight, I dragged one of them in and explained as best as I could, that they needed to check these every night, regardless of who is working. I'm afraid that it won't last any better than it did last time.

Am I just being an ass here?
