  • Cashiers, how much do you ring a day?

Today is only my 2nd day on the registers at the grocery store. It was pretty busy, but not slammed, for most of the day, with a few periods where every cashier had a line 3 or 4 people deep for 30 or 45 minutes.

When I counted down at the end of my shift, I asked how much I rang in. My jaw hit the floor when the supe said "Way over $8,000, in fact almost $9,000". I figured it was closer to about $5000. My drawer also balanced to the penny (yesterday I was 1 cent over, but ran less than half of what I did today).

So how much do you guys run in a typical shift?

I do service desk now, but when I cashiered I usually rang in a minimum of $6000-$7000 a day. On a Saturday or Sunday it would usually be between $9000 and $12,000.

On the day before Christmas Eve last year, I rang in a whopping $19,000 in sales (with a perfect, to-the-penny drawer, I might add). I think New Years Eve was something like $14,500.

when I worked for a tourist attraction selling tickets, I would take in about 40-$50k in a matter of about 9am until 1pm...yeah...that was fun counting out all those 20 dollar bills

Technically, I wasn't a cashier, but at Macy's, my average for ringing was between two and three thousand per shift. (made a big difference if I was working at one of the handbags registers or at the watch counter)

On a normal day working 9am-5pm about 11,000, during christmas eve, same amount of hours I took in 35,000. That was a huge day.

It really varied, depending on the store location and the sales at the time. At the bigger of the two Big Yanks, on a big sales week, the store would take in roughly $250,000 in cash (per day) plus at least that much in checks and credit cards. There were normally 15 - 20 cashiers for the entire day, so somewhere between $33K and $20K per cashier on average. I've done up to $55K by myself in a day, but that was working open to close. I think I'd rather lop my own foot off rather than go back to that...

I would usually get between $10,000 and $20,000 on busy days, most of which were not cash transactions, thankfully.

This thread reminded me, though, of the two times customers asked me how much cash I was bringing in each day on average.
Yeah, that's a good way to get your ass questioned by LP.

On a fairly busy full day at the grocery store, roughly $13,000. I haven't been at this job long though and I could definitely see going up and over $18,000 during the busy season.

My personal best was when I had to pull a 14 hour day on christmas eve at till number 1.

I pulled in over 150k. I'm just glad we had the security people coming by every hour or so, to take our money. We had all the tills running with lines 20-30 deep at every one.

I've never even come close to that number again. That store made more money on that one day than the place I'm working at now makes in a month!!

My personal best isn't really huge, it's only about $5000 in actual cash... but that's $5000 in movie rentals. Much higher with the cards in there, but that part was handled by the MoD, not the CSR.

To date my best is today - $11,4xx. My drawer was 25 cents off because apparently a UAE coin of some kind snuck its way into my quarters. I still say it came in the bank's roll of quarters, since I opened a roll just before the end of my shift.

One customer was $1,083.xx - my jaw dropped when I saw the total going up and up and up and up on my monitor. I asked several cashiers what their highest basket was and they all said around 700-800. I know it's not a store record, but it's damn close to the record for most of our cashiers.

my biggest transaction not counting gift cards or any large items was I think about $500($4500 counting cards, the most expensive items in my store are about $2000), when I was a courtesy clerk I had a carryout where a guy bought $1400 worth of furniture, and I'm not sure how much I ring up. one day I was working 9-3 and was in the upper $4ks at about 2, but that was on a garden center register which has a smaller average order(that was I think 94 customers) and some down time, so I'm sure on a belted register, working an 8 hours day I could easily hit 9-10k

PS if I get robbed I'm holding you accountable j/k
