  • I Am SOOOOOO Happy!

I recently moved and transferred to another store owned by the same company. I start work there Tuesday (took a week off to unpack and relax a little).

Why does this make me happy? Because tonight all my bookstore brethren are going to be stuck at work handing out teenybopper vampire books at midnight!

If you don't know what I'm talking about, the kids (and many adults as well) have left Harry Potter in the dust and are now all about the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. I have not read any of the books in the series, but as far as I can tell it is "Underworld" with no sex or swearing and high schoolers as protagonists (I hate vampires and teenagers, so I am predisposed to hate these books and will not read them. I am not saying anything bad about the books themselves, they are just not my thing).

In order to sell stuff like crazy (as they did at the Harry Potter release parties) most bookstores are having midnight release parties for the fourth book in the Twilight series. And I don't have to work it!! >happy dance<

I even asked the scheduling guy at the new store if he thought he needed me to work tonight...and he said no, their schedule was full so I could have a few more days off if I wanted!

    Lucky me!

Being a fantasy nut... I must admit I've never heard of this series.

At least it, like Harry Potter did, is getting kids to read.

I will admit here and now that I have read the series. The crazy part is that I actually enjoyed it. My friends (English majors, usually very good taste in literature) recommended it to me, and my initial reaction was "High schoolers and vampires? HELLZ NAW." But I gave in and read, and it was not the atrocity I had anticipated.
