  • it's your property, do with it what you want

    so I had a customer come through self check today with some cold medicine, which the computer makes me go do an approval for, when I get there:

    C=customer
    me=guess who

    C:we're buying drugs to make drugs, is that ok?
    me:I don't care.... as long as you're 18

    honestly, I don't care what you do with anything you buy, after you buy it it's your property, if you want to turn your house into a bomb cooking meth, I honestly do not care, it's not my problem, I just check that you're old enough to buy it. they were joking, but i'm sure I will, at some point, sell some cough syrup to a meth manufacturer, and I simply don't care, stopping meth dealers is way outside my pay grade. sorry. next time I think I should tell them it's fine as long as they give me some

    Well, heres to hoping they were just really stupid and not undercover agent checking if the store is following the law.
    I've lost my mind ages ago. If you find it, please hide it.

      But, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong, as I haven't done retail that sells anything that can be used for something else, but he was just following the law, which I believe just limits the sale to a certain number of packages to adults 18 years and older, right?

      So even if he was an undercover, it wouldn't have mattered. I mean, I'm sure if the customer was one who just got off the news for being caught making meth and was trying to buy some cough meds, this might be a different conversation.

        it's the stores problem to make sure they're 18, after that, it's not the stores problem, or at least, not mine, my job description only said checks ID(they were obviously over 18, so I didn't have to check) and the CBLs/supervisors didn't say anything about it

          My gas station just recently started selling cough syrup. The paper work that came from head office said that it was limited to 2 per person per day if they were over 18. If anyone acts or mentions anything suspicious. We are to report it to the police but not deny the sale.

            oooo you know i like that idea. check the ID, note the address... then call the cops on the address and say "hey have an anonymous tip about this guy...."

            just as long as they don't come back and hurt you for it
