  • Shift bid horror

So, we had a shift bid at work. Both part-timers and full-timers had to bid. I am a part-timer. Currently, I work 38 hours a week. I can fall to 30 and still be fairly comfortable.

My first choice was a 32 hour week. There were two of them. One day shift and one night shift. I can't work nights...so I chose the 32 hour week day shift.

    I thought I'd get it. I didn't. Rather, I got the shift that gets me 24 hours/week.

I'm so fucked right now. One check will not be enough to pay rent.

I hate crying at work, but that's all I can do right now.

I'd work full-time, however, my schooling requires an internship and if I work full-time, there'd be no time for the internship, meaning I won't be able to get my degree.

I just don't know what to do right now.

Can't you talk to the higher-ups & explain your situation?

Yeah, they said if there are any conflicts with our new schedules to talk to our supervisors. I emailed mine and told her I have no conflicts, its just not enough hours. I told her 32 would be great, 30 is pushing it, but 24 will bury me. I told her that I cannot afford my apartment now.

She emailed me back a few minutes ago asking if they add on 2 more hours a shift would that work. That would take me to 30 and that would definitely be better. I told her yes, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet.
