  • Sometimes I question their sanity.

so, this doesn't have anything to do with SCs, nor am I necessarily ranting about CWs or our store management. I live in houston. we're kind of under crisis mode because Ike is fecking huge and heading our way. So, while everywhere else is closing down early and people are doing storm prep and voluntariy evacuation, what does our corporate say?

Stay open until 5!! Try and make more sales!

    Idjuts.

thankfully, I was already scheduled to have a 3 day weekend, so when they called me to come in and cover for someone else who'd called in, I could tell them I'd already evacuated to San Antonio to ride out the storm here, took far too long to get here, but I made it! I am worried about my apartment, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Seriously, who's going to buy textbooks with an impending hurricane? What maroons...

Maybe they're going to put their downtime to good use and study? But then, those types would already have their feking textbooks.

I wish you and your apartment all the luck, Lupo. Glad you made it out of harm's way.
I am no longer of capable of the emotion you humans call “compassion”. Though I can feign it in exchange for an hourly wage. (Gravekeeper)

All the public schools in the Austin area made plans to close early, primarily because of traffic concerns. My step-daughter goes to one of the "tech colleges" in the area, and they are still holding classes. The college is located on one of the major evacuation highways. Class lets out at 10 pm. Any guesses as to what time she will get home? It would not surprise me if she decides to sleep in her truck tonight.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

I guess I can't say much. Our plant in Conroe was kept open until 6:00pm. You'd think that the company would allow people to take time to, I don't know, PACK and leave town...

For the record, our plant lost power at around Midnight Mountain time. I figure that the store was just hitting hard at that point.

Looks like you're going to miss the most of it there in San Antonio. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your apartment's survival.

                update of sorts

So, firstly, thanks to all for well wishes. I am very glad I chose to leave Houston when I did because according to a friend who lived in the same apartment complex and stayed it got pretty bad. She has a hole in her roof, a busted window, and a large mess to clean. I had left her my keys and asked her to check on my apartment when it was safe.

Apparently, I lost a wind chime off my patio.

                That's it.

Luckily, my place was situated in a building off the beaten path, and was buffered by the buildings around it. Even the plants on my patio don't look too bad, just a littled battered.

I'm still out of the city, though. I'm looking at being able to return Monday maybe, but most likely Tuesday at the earliest. Power is out in my area, and there's no clear idea on when it'll be back up.

I think that's all for now, that I know of.

don't like to say it but there ARE people who will wait until the last minute or past it, YES even in hurricane or worse weather.

see my company (kinda sound like eh tee and tea) actually closed the tech dept in texas, sales also, sent all our field technicans home, and wouldnt take technician dispatches until today, so at least one company cares... mostly....

Crono: sounds like the machine update became a clusterf*ck..
pedersen: No. A clusterf*ck involves at least one pleasurable thing (the orgasm at the end).
