  • co-worker is a geek!

And I mean that in the best possible way! I work for a women's org that is decidedly ungeeky. The only geeks around have, to date, been me and some of the tech guys.

But then we got in our new web designer. Who brings Orson Scott Card books to read during lunch (our concerted efforts resulted in our boss getting hooked on the Ender series).

I discovered that she had never gotten into graphic novels, and so I lent her my copies of Sandman. Which she finished today. She's hooked.

I LOVE having another geek girl at work!

did some one say Terry Pratchett?

Now, even though Pratchett is good, I prefer David Feintuch (rest in peace), his Seafort Saga is a space opera to put Star Wars to shame (yes I said it).

This is Card...in a office where the general reading lists are Oprah's Book Club list and Nicholas Sparks.

Believe me, I welcomed Card. Was also happy to welcome Bradbury, Clarke, Gaiman, etc.

You're just not looking hard enough. Easily 50% of my college Star Wars Club was female and single.

Hey, don't knock Sparks. He's actually a really good author. You wind up really caring about his characters (which, duh, is one of the many reasons books sell). I get weepy reading some of his books. The Notebook? Oh my god, genius.

I love Bradbury and Asimov. Geiman has some of the best work I've seen in a long time.

Ok, then, let me rephrase. My office’ favorite forms of entertainment are Menopause: the Musical, and the Sex and the City movie. *Joi dies*

Update: right now, the receptionist, the CEO, and a co-worker are all running around the office, fighting over a Richard Gere autograph. *headdesk*

um... Lets see what clubs we had, I dropped out because of the other students:
                        - Wrestling Club
                        - Environment Club - no members, other than president
                        - Photography Club - no members, other than president
                        - Business Students Club - no one signed up, maybe professors talked some students into it
                        - Various sports-related clubs

Around half the students were female, but this was College, not University, so most of them smoked (I can live with that), but they all were stupid (they would get on the same bus as me and ask the driver 'Is this the 24', even though the sign says '24 South Common Mall' or 'Does this bus go to South Common').

In 2 weeks, I met one female student who is actually smart, she is 8 years older than me and doing her 3rd degree

I've always been confused about the high number of college students that smoked... I know I can't afford to smoke (not that I'd want to) so I'm wondering just what magical money source all these college students that do smoke have. Oh and the bus story, it could be worse, instead of asking the driver they could just get on and assume that the bus really goes a good 2 and a half miles further than it actually does (seriously, at least once a week I will overhear "don't worry, we don't have to get off at Meadowbrook, the 39 will go to SLCC" )

Most smoke natives. Illegal, but cheap. $9-$20 for a bag of 200, opposed to $60-$80 for a carton of 200.

*LOL* Today, in between raving about Sandman and dissing our stupid bosses who couldn't meet a deadline to save their lives, my coworker and I spent a good while trading cosplay pics.

My coworker makes things so much fun.
