  • I did something kinda stupid and evil

I'm standing there at my register and I got to thinking. I've posted before about all the validation problem we've been having at my store. People coming in and buying a .50 cheese stick and getting sometimes up to 10.00 off parking and my boss refuses to put a spending limit on validation. Well the same jackasses come in everyday and do this, what gets me is they stand there with this smug look on their face. As if they have beat the system. So I got to thinking and I went over and took the basket of cheese sticks out of the cooler and put them in the fridge in the back. Well just in the last hour 6 out of the 10 idiots have came in and stood at the cooler and just got this sad look on their faces. And oh gasp they have had to spend a whole 1.17 on something else. I know its evil and stupid but I'm just tired of that smug look they have. Also its funnier then a rooster in socks.

Good for you! You just need to start slowly removing stuff until they have to spend $5-10 in the store because nothing else is cheaper.

But what if someone requests a cheaper item?

        I don't understand this thinking.

Why give away $10.00 to make a .50 sale? Even if parking is massively discounted to the stores I doubt it is cheaper that the profit on 50 cent sales.

Does your boss think it is no deal because it is the property management paying for parking? Well, it is still coming out in his rent and maintenance fees.

Reminds of the program I wrote where I want to prevent the program sending out bills that were less than postage. What sense is it to send out a bill for 10 cents (three of them in fact first notice, second notice, final notice) if it cost 25 cents to send each letter?

My guess is you'd be fired for giving the right answer to "What's the cheapest thing here?" - "Customers who buy something they don't need but is priced lower than parking in order to get their parking validated"

Good gravy! I thought I'd seen cheapskates but that's pretty ridiculous! You should always direct them to about a five or ten buck item or make up a new policy and post it that you only validate parking for customers spending a minimum of ten dollars.

Don't feel guilty about it at all. I used to do something similar when the hubs and I owned a store in the middle of nowhere. If it was a rich tourist coming in buying a cup of coffee it was two bucks. Anyone local I never charged more than fifty cents. No price posted anywhere. If you were an especially EW whiner that coffee would go up to three dollars.
