  • It's Not a Recession for Us!

"Recession? What recession! There's plenty of work for us--too much work, in fact!"
Do any of you feel this way, right now? I sure do!

Yeah. It's actually fab cos most of my flights are quite quiet so less work

And we are massivly overcrewed so I am not flying much but still earning a decent salary

I won't be so happy when the airline goes under though!
    No longer a flight atttendant!

My job is pretty much recession proof, to a certain degree my work load will go up a bit too!

I work for a company that provides TV, VOIP, and Internet all over IP. we have hit 1,000,000 customers and the number keeps climbing, so yeah, i dont feel the recession at all.

My day job is fairly recession-proof. People will always need medicine to cure their various ills.

My night job, not as much. We are a grocery store, but our prices are generally higher than the larger chains around town. So people shop around, myself included.

We had a few down weeks but things have spiked up again the floral industry. People will always be croaking and their loved ones ordering flower arrangements to lay on the grave so it's pretty recession-proof. However, management did a sucky thing and decided to use the 'recession' as a reason to cut away most of the people they thought were deadwood, which perhaps wasn't really sucky at all.

Not by me, at least not during Christmastime. As of last week we were #1 in the region for sales vs. plan in the region, according to the managers.

There were plenty of snowstorms that held business down those days, but it seems we largely made up for those on the days when it wasn't snowing for a change.

After the holidays sales will probably go into the toilet. They were for a few months before Christmas. People were buying only what they needed.

The cinema is pretty recession proof - it is relatively cheap entertainment, and as cinemas go it is well positioned with not a lot of competion from other cinemas.

The company I work for is in loads of national / local press saying how the recession isn't affecting them at all, and how they are doing really well. But it always comes across as a bit smug, so I can see it backfiring on them in the future. They've not passed the VAT reduction on to customers ("It means we get to buy our stock cheaper, and keep a larger slice of profit") and have put some of the prices up by a LOT on the most popular services.

Customers will vote with their feet and go to smaller cheaper local shops instead who do the work just as well, if not better.

My job is Recession proof. I work in the Self Storage industry. With all the foreclosures, we are doing great. Plus it helps, that one of our competitors is a drunk, who will argue with everyone about everything. A few of our tenants came from there. Another is on the verge of being bankrupted, because they have all their units as climate control. And because of that, their prices are high + not many people are renting. And another had 27 break-ins in one night. So most of customers are coming from them and also because of the foreclosures

I work construction, so that is hurting right now. However, I personally am busy because we keep picking up new work for spring time.

A lot of contractors/developers are having problems getting financing, but the one's who finance their own work (the really rich ones) aren't stopping.

We got a 4 building (all of them at least 8 stories plus parking garage) complex that's going to start in March. All of them apartments/condos.

Plus we assume work will pick up in the "bad neighborhoods" once Obama gets in, as he'll probably lay the groundwork to get "urban redevlopment" going again.

Recession proof? No, but there's a light.

it STILL amazes me that the sales at my pizza place are not down. (yet) people are still ordering tons of takeout and delivery. maybe it is the holiday season maybe not, but one would thing with all of the retail stores reporting somewhat huge downturns in sales (despite humogo sales and discounts) people would cut back on a "luxury" item such as take out food

but I personally am in a resession because despite people still ordering tons of stuff from us my tips overall from last year (2007) are down about 30 - 40%. by average I should have made 2K - 3K more in tips this year due to increased business overall, more runs per shift, greater "check" average. there were nights during the spring and summer where I should have walked away with at least $40 - $50 more than I actually made

really strange that people seem to order more $$$'s in dine-in or take away but literally stiff the server (driver or dine-in server) and try and lamely justify the stiff
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

My boyfriend works in Defence and is as busy as ever buying stuff for the Armed Forces.

Funny how the global economy is going downwards yet there's still plenty of money to fund war

In the UK the public sector is apparently the best place to be to keep your job in the recession. Something like 1 in 6 people work for the state.

                              I'm a locksmith.

economy goes down, crime goes up, everybody wants more heavy duty locks, cause their neighbor/relative/friend got robbed.

                              Yup!...... recession proof.
