  • Work Injury Thread version 2.0

Today at work I was on one of the little stepstools so I could face product.

    It only has two steps.

I went to step down and totally disregarded the existance of one of the steps.*

My left foot hurts a little bit and I think I'm going to have back spasms tomorrow.

I'm just glad I didn't fall on my ass. I would've died of mortification.

*A customer saw my ungraceful dismount and commented on it when he came to my register a few minutes later. If the male coworker who was stocking in that aisle saw me, he didn't say anything.

I work in a wine store. Which means, on occasion, there's broken glass laying around. Generally, I can avoid it.

A couple Fridays ago, I was moving wine out of a car, when I felt something sharp under my pinky fingernail (I keep my nails a bit long). As soon as I moved my hand, my finger felt fine, so I figured I caught it on a staple or something.

Nope. Broken glass. From a crappy bottle that shattered. Ended up bleeding, and still having to unpack wine. Luckily, I didn't have any glass stuck in the cut, unlike my poor coworker, who got another sliver of the same bottle stuck in her finger.

Bonus points: I got to freak out the owner by being chirpy and cheerful about the blood. 'Ooo! Look! Now I'm BLEEDING!'

I was off today (thankfully) so no new injury.

However, both of my ankles hurt, my left foot hurts in the general vicinity of my big toe and my lower back still hurts a little.

      Yay.

Becks, did you report it? It may seem simple, but pulling of muscles can take a while to heal and time may pass before you find out you did something worse. For example my dear brother who fell 14 feet off of irrigation equipment at work. Figured he just "pulled something" in his leg and wrist. Nope, a couple days and much swelling later, an x-ray confirmed a hairline fracture of the wrist. The knee was sprained (that one swelled up right away), but he only later found out that he did some nice tearing in the 'ol knee. May need surgery in the upcoming year. Now how the hell someone doesn't notice *pain*, I can't figure. He said it was manageable, which means I'd probably be in a fetal position and whimpering.

I recently filled out my first accident report ever. I opened a door and pinched/tore the flesh of my arm. Yep, by opening a door. My arm got caught in the push/swish mechanism of the door as I leaned against it to open it. Brand new door, too. And I'm probably the only one who would ever get injured that way. Got a nice lovely scar for my efforts and it took a couple weeks to mostly heal. As it just happened a couple weeks ago, it's still in the mostly healed stage. Hopefully the bright red scar will fade in time
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

No, I didn't mention it at the time, but I will today.

I just felt like an idiot. Well, more so than usual...
