  • This made me feel so bad...

While I was volunteering for the Humane Society at our local mall, I went down to the food court to get some lunch (not slacking off, I swear-I worked 10 hour days up until Christmas Eve). As I walked, I noticed one of the local jewelry stores in the mall was going out of business, it had signs saying it closed on the 27th, or something, and had all these signs that said items were up to 90% off.

Well, of course people were mobbing the place. I noticed that on the counters were several signs taped up/put in little frames, that read:

Please be nice to the employees. We will all be out of a job very soon

I don't know if it was because people were being jerks and haggling like mad and complaining or if the employees were just depressed. Probably both. I felt so bad for them...

    That is sad.

Not that i think for even one second that it will make the SCs stop and think about what they're doing. And that makes me even sadder actually.

Yeeeeeaaaaah. That's a sucky situation all around. I strongly suspect a combination of "Give me this engagement ring for freeGADRRLSRSVXX1!eleventy!" and knowledge that they'll soon be laid off provoked that sign.

But I gotta admit, as an employee, I'd be waiting for furious people to say, "I'll never shop here again!"

For once, I'd believe them. I'd probably laugh, too.

As it is, my sympathy goes out for those employees. They didn't ask for it, and they still have to work at a company where the days are long and stressful, the customers are rude and EWs, their coworkers are in the same boat and may be playing hooky, and they know that they'll have to be job hunting in a few days/weeks.

I would have a hard time showing up at all.

If there’s one thing women love, it’s the guy that just can’t seem to find the line that divides “Ha Ha” and “Stacey, get your purse, we’re leaving before he comes back.”.

"And I'll never work here again, so we'll both be happy won't we?"

In all seriousness, I can't imagine how disheartening it must be to have to drag yourself in to the last days of carnage. I feel so sorry for the workers.

Shopping with my MIL at a chain store that was closing. At one point, I looked around and said, "It's so depressing here. And all of these people will be out of work in a couple of weeks." My MIL just stood there a moment, then kind of blew it off. She didn't want me to harsh her happy shopping buzz.

I'm glad to hear they had that sign. Before working during a store closing myself, I'd never really given much thought to the workers that would be losing their jobs. And more importantly, never realized what type of scum shop closeout sales. Not all people, mind you, but a whole heap of them nonetheless. Even "normal" people turn into raging a-holes trying to get extra deals. It's a miserable experience. So yeah, it pleases me to hear they had such a sign. Whether or not it helped though...
