On Friday, my boss asked if I could come with him to his boss' office.

When I got into the office, I was told that I was being laid off, that the position was being eliminated. I was told I would get 2 weeks severance pay, as standard, and bennies would end at end of month.

Christ on a cracker. I just got here in August, and I really liked this job!!!!!!!

But it's not only me. I've been watching the term notices in the emails (I worked in MIS), so I was seeing some people leave. I wasn't sure if they were beginning of year deadwood or layoffs or what.

    Guess I know now.

That really sucks, I'm sorry I hear about people getting laid off left and right, and I really don't understand it. I don't see how that is going to fix the problem. I hope you find are able to find something else that you like.

Sorry about your job, and I hope you can find another one soon.

I kinda know how you felt. I put in for a week's vacation (starting October 20) a couple months before that. The last day before my vacation I worked my full 8-hour shift. I had filled in my time card, grabbed my purse/jacket, told everyone goodbye and had my hand on the doorknob to leave.

My boss hollered at me, "hey come in here for a minute" (wanting me to go with her into her office). I figured she wanted to talk to me about the next month's schedule so I wasn't even worried.

She started right out saying "I hate to have to do this, but I'm letting you go."

I just blinked and stared at her.

I worked there 12 years. No word of warning, nothing, just fired. Nice.

I did notice my name was on the November schedule, so it was just odd.

She said it wasn't anything I did over the weekend, or even recently...but was very vague. I think it had something to do with her favorite waitress wanting to come back. She'd quit a few months earlier, in favor of a full-time job with benefits, but quit on Friday and was filling in for another waitress. So, I think my boss wanted to give her my hours. I'll probably never know for sure though.

I think we need a support group here for all of us that have been affected by lay-offs lately. I mean, how many have there been in the last week or so?
