"Melissa" parked in Visitor Parking today like she does everytime she comes to work. She has been an employee at the university since January 2008, & she does not have an access card for the Faculty/Staff garage. Why I do not know. She can park in that garage as long as she buys an access card. Everytime she arrives her window is rolled up, & she is either looking straight ahead or on her cell phone. Someone dropped "Kim" off inside she garage, & she said hi to me.
Today is the first day of school spring semester, & it has been busy.
People drove up to the outside gate. One person who drove up to that gate honked their horn. I motioned for everyone who did that to drive up to the booth window & said "I'm sorry, but all personal vehicle traffic always has to enter through this gate."
One student asked me where the Wood street garage was (at the college of business). She paid $75.00 to park in the garage this semester. The university where I work is a commuter campus. There is only one lot that has a shuttle bus, & that lot is the Vine lot, but is further from the Wood street garage. The student asked me how to get to the Wood street garage. I gave her directions, & that she asked me how she gets to the main bldg. I told her she has to walk. She said "I paid $75.00 for that?" I told her that the Vine lot has a shuttle bus, but it is further from the Wood street garage. She told me she would park across the street at meter parking & ask the parking office how she gets to the main bldg. from the Wood street garage. They will tell her the same thing... walk.
The software that is used to change the open sign to full is working, but the remote I use, which is new, will not raise the entrance gate when the full sign is on. It only works for the exit gate. Why, I do not know. The dept. I report to, Visitor Parking/Community Relations, & the Parking office are aware of the problem. So now the open sign is one, & there are only enough spots for everyone on the event list. Luckily, there was not many spots to reserve, & so there were many non-reserved spots available, but they were quickly filled. I have to tell everyone not on the event list it's reserved even though the open sign is on & explain where other parking is. The 2 lots near the campus, which I can see, are already full. It's is now 9: 20 a.m.
It's a zoo this morning. Many people want to park, & the garage is reserved.
