  • Layoffs and other suckage

They did layoffs at our office on Tuesday and Wednesday. Once the word spread, every time my phone rang I would jump until I saw who was calling. Four support staff people were let go, two of whom I'll miss. The new rumor is that there will be attorney layoffs next week, but we'll see.

Two big firms based in our area closed at the end of last year, so we're in better shape, but having gone through a firm completely closing down, I think I had PTSD. A little thing happened on Friday that would normally have just pissed me off, but I found myself crying off and on for the rest of the day.

I have to finish my degree and paralegal certification. I need as many options as possible.

Good luck. I hope you can squeak by without getting layed off.

We did management layoffs last week and hour cuts this week. Yeah, PTSD, totally.

Good luck to you wagegoth. My job goes bye-bye at the end of March, and even with a degree and paralegal cert I've already started the mad scramble for Something Else as soon as humanly possible. You might find your experience speaks greater volumes for you than the degree, but you're right, options never hurt.

The Circuit City closest to my job closed back before Christmas, when they first started doing shutdowns. I remind myself that 30,000 people will be out of jobs when CC closes, but it simply isn't as personal. To an extent, I try not to dwell on it as it makes my depression worse, but I'm not unfeeling to the big losses going on out there.

Apparently one of the British railway operators decided to do layoffs.

What they said: "it'll mostly be middle management and administration, not front-line staff at all."

Evidence was very quickly discovered that it would in fact be all front-line staff, not management or administration.

                We'll see what really happens.

I try not to dwell on it either. I just kind of go into CC every day and take it day by day. I've gotta laugh about it - or else I'll end up feeling sorry for myself and that's no way to progress.
