I started my new job on Monday and so far I really like it. Although the work is very similar to my job at the Call Center from Hell, the atmosphere is really different. At the old job, calls were monitored and they looked really hard for ways to take off points, which overall affected your performance reviews. They did the same thing when we worked mail. They nitpicked on everything. If you didn't do something the exact way they wanted, you were wrong. Even if you achieved the desired result. At the new job, you just do what you have to do to resolve the situation. There is no specific right or wrong approach. And if a customer is verbally abusive, you can simply tell them you are hanging up. None of this 3 warnings BS before you can disconnect the call.
We had 12 1/2 inches of snow yesterday into today. I tried to get to work, but had to finally had to turn around and go home. I felt really bad, especially since this would have been my 3rd day on the job. When I called my boss to let her know that I couldn't make it in, she said she was getting ready to call me. They decided that they didn't want any of the employees to drive on the dangerous roads, so we were not open today. At the Call Center from Hell, if you were snowed in or the roads were too bad to drive on, if a specific percentage of the entire building couldn't make it in, the absence would be excused. If we did not meet that percentage, it was an unexcused absence and could earn you a written warning, depending on your attendance. They did not care that people could be in danger trying to get to work.
So far, I am really enjoying working for a company that likes and cares about the employees. They even sent us home early on Tuesday because the roads were already getting really bad. The pay sucks, but their attitude toward us really rocks.
