  • Driving Quiz

You've bought a new car (new to you, not brand new) and it gets dark.

You switch on the lights and notice the blue light on the dash that indicates that the main (high) beams come on.
    Do you
    A) Pull, flick, and twiddle every switch sytematically until the light goes off
    B) Read the guidance manual to see how to switch it off
    C) Phone a mechanically minded friend to see how to switch it off
    D) Ignore it

A driver I dealt with two nights ago did exactly D). I have real issues with being dazzled at night with incorrectly set lights and front fog lamps lit when they're not needed so it literally *hurt* when this lady was driving towards me with main beams on!

Suitable words of advice and instruction were given!
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

Reported a lady to the Blue Bears once for that very reason. She was behind me with the brights on and would NOT go around.

I actually was concerned that my night vision might be going, as for the last couple years it seems everyone around here has that particular malfunction. But after talking to a bunch of other people, it does seem that most drivers here are just completely incapable of turning off the high beams.

Well, unless they're driving a navy blue or black vehicle late at night, then they don't have the lights on at all. I've seen 4 instances of this in the last 5 days.

And a couple dozen 'high beams only'... My eyes!

Have you noticed that the dark cars don't turn on their lights at night, while the gray, silver, light cars don't turn on their lights during bad weather. Are they trying to go stealth?

I turn on my lights of my silver car, when the weather gets bad.

I've been driving with my headlights on at all times since about 1978. I can remember people honking and hollering, "Your lights are on!" and me just thinking, "Yes, they are! Thanks for noticing!"
