  • All good things... and even mediocre ones... must come to an end

It appears I'm staring down the barrel of the end of my job.

Here's the deal: I work for a Security company that has the contract for a local college. The local college will be announcing in a month whether or not they will start bringing in in-house Peace Officers to act as supervisors. However, it seems the decision is already made.

This is all well and good, and is in fact a GOOD thing for the site, really. This site is big and complex enough it really deserves Peace Officers. And all the other positions will get to keep their jobs (With the contract company), and likely slowly be merged over to in-house... the good ones will stay, the bad ones will be weeded out.

The problem? I'm a supervisor. And although I am good at what I do, I'm not Peace Officer material.

Now, I can always go back to my old position in Mobile, right? Well, except the Mobile pay rate is about $3 an hour LESS.

Given the Contract company gets paid a certain rate for each position, regardless of what they pay THEIR officers, would they want me in there, or someone they're paying $3 less, and therefore making $3 more from?

So... it's likely either a voluntary pay cut, or get laid off.

    *Sigh*

The way things are, my advice is to take what you can get from your current employer, then start looking around, especially is the pay difference is better than unemployment. It's usually true that it's easier to find a job while you're already employed.
