Try living in small towns where the tornado siren also goes off at noon during the week.

    Fun times.
I did live in one of those towns in Nevada. I got to the point where I could sleep through it when I worked nights.

They test the "Agent Release" sirens at Dugway every week. With a very loud PA announcement "This is a Test!".

I live in a pretty big (by midwest standards) city, and ours test every first Wednesday of the month at noon.

I always wondered what would happen if a tornado actually hit on a first Wednesday at noon. There would be mass confusion.

Ok, not really funny - but I'm kinda warped that way.

Nope sorry, northerners know what those sirens sound like, too. Well, if by north, you mean like Wisconsin/Minnesota/Iowa/Illinois/Michigan

IN St. Louis the test was the first Tuesday of the month at 11am

Test is the first Tuesday of the month at 10 am in my area. Supposedly the siren pattern is different for tests than it is for an actual weather alert.

Where has this guy lived as to have never heard a tornado siren before?
Desert southwest of the US? I've lived here all my life and have never heard one.

When I first moved to the midwest I learned an important lesson. Your tornado warning siren sounds exactly like our missile warning siren.

This is on the list of things I didn't want to ever know.
I don't know what those sound like either. And I did live near a large missile range. But since it's on the other side of the mountains, they're usually firing target missiles from way up they northwest corner of the state, and they will usually close the roads through the range (especially if a heat seeker is being tested)....

Never heard a tornado siren but I was a kid in a small town with volunteer firefighters so we heard plenty of sirens.

Every home had a wall chart listing the siren patterns that would indicating the various parts of town. Fer instance, one long and two short was Broadway between New Main and Cosgrove (Yeah, the town was really that small). Also, there was a prolonged blast every day at noon.

The only siren I'm aware of...is the one the borough's fire department sets off at 6pm every night. We don't get many tornadoes here in Pittsburgh. Bad storms with heavy winds yes, but no actual funnel clouds. The many hills tend to block them out.

I've never heard a live tornado siren or a live air raid siren, but I've heard recordings of both on TV (movies and documentaries), and I'd be able to recognize what either were if I did hear one.

I've spent time visiting relatives in a small town, and I remember that the fire station would hit the siren for a short blast every day about 2 minutes before noon. I seem to recall someone telling me that they weren't allowed to ring at noon, but had to be a couple minutes before or after. I have no idea if that's true or not, however.

Where I vacation, we had a nuke plant nearby. Driving towards my cottage I would see one of the sirens. Nice looking siren. Pretty new, it was taken down when the plant what destroyed. Now the only alert is the siren at noon time from the harbor. That one is loud!

                          I don't have a clue.

Even here in Green Bay we get the occasional noon siren.

Maybe it's every day and I manage to tune it out more often than not.

I think it's noon on Saturday for the whole state. I've lived in 4 cities so far here, and it's always been the same (Ripon and the Fox Cities, anyway.)
