My poor boss, Keith, is having a crappy couple of weeks.
First his computer died right before a trade show. Luckily the trade show was local, so he didn't have to travel. He did have some out-of-town friends staying at his house during the show, though.
He ordered a replacement computer and has spent today trying to restore all his programs and data. So he's in a FANTASTIC mood. [I think I heard him address his computer as "You pig-fucking son of a bitch" under his breath just now.]
Oh, yeah. We've had weirdly hot weather and our upstairs air conditioner isn't working. Hannah, the accountant (and also Keith's wife), has the office with a western facing window. So she was rather anxious that the AC get fixed.
So Keith grumpily goes off to see if he can get the AC working. Nothing. He yells, "What the hell else can go wrong?!" and asks me to see if I can look up our AC repair guy. I find it the info and give it to him. He calls. He's perfectly polite on the phone [He's always perfectly nice to people. Just don't be an inanimate object and piss him off.

After he's done he hangs up and accidentally hits a button on the phone and hold music starts coming out of the speaker. If that sounds familiar, it's because it happened to me last fall.
Oh. My. Gosh. That was the last straw. He went crazy. He was slamming the phone around to make the music stop. I thought he was going throw it at the wall.
I told him that there was a way to turn it off. I just needed to find out what it was. I reminded him it had happened to me and we'd figured it out.
Slam! Slam! Press! Press!
Meanwhile, I'm frantically looking through my old emails to find out how we did it. I can find it.
[more swearing and curses]
Shit. I'm not find the information. Then I remembered. I posted the story here! So I used the Advanced search feature. Plugged in my name and the keyword "music." And there it was. The instructions are on the cheat sheet under Other Features was the toggle sequence. Keith had his cheat sheet and we toggled it off. Thank goodness.
Today's lessons:
1. Our hold music apparently has the power to enrage both me and my boss.
2. If it weren't for customerssuck.com, my boss may well have had a stroke.
3. The ability to play your hold music through your phone's speaker is not only worthy of being listed FIRST among Other Features, it also apparently has a one button shortcut to toggle it on.
4. I missed a great April Fools' opportunity.
