So, it's buyback season in Textbook Hell. Holy fark, has it sucked so far. On top of the usual stupidity, corporate has dumped a whole new load of attention grabbing gimmicks on us, that we're supposed to run, with a seriously short staffed store. Ok, fine, no big.
But they want us to run Plinko (Gah!! nnnnnnoooooo!!), two separate scratch off games, do an independent contracter deal with buybacks (Have people wander campus and ask to buy students' books back, purely commission, you get $1 for every book you buy, regardless of price...), AND run a remote buyback on location outside of one of the campus buildings.
Riiiight, that'll happen. Well, yesterday, I got asked to run the remote. SUre, fine, whatever, great. Not only do I deal with suck and stupid students selling books back, I have to do it outside all by my lonesome. What joy, really...
Turns out...it really IS joyful for me! It's kinda slow, which is fine with me, because I get to study for my fminals. Essentially, I got paid to sit around, and wait for people to come see me. about 5 minutes per transaction, then it's back to sitting, playing computer games when I got bored from studying, and able to text friends while on the clock. FABULOUS!!
And I get to do it all over agian today! I'm sitting outside right now, hooked into the university wireless and just surfing CS.com and teh intarwebz. and being paid to do it because everyone else in the store is a wuss who's whining about the heat. This isn't hot to me, it's just humid. I can deal with that. I'm from a desert climate, so 80 degrees is child's play. Yes, I could do without the humidity, but geez, I'm getting paid to be outside AWAY from most people and out of a retail setting.
Me likey!! A lot!! And now, I'm going to study for a final on company time. Bossman knows this is what I'm doing, and he doesn't care, because I pulled in a nice chunk of change yesterday. Total hours spend outside: 6. Total transactions: 5 Total money pulled in: $530. Not bad, considering we usually only net about $300 at the remote. i almost doubled it. Go me!!
If only all days could be like this.
