  • sucky things to date....

I have a shocking memory so most of the things that were CS worthy wafted out of my head as soon as I saw that pretty birdie fly by...LOL

Anyways. I'm a Nanny at the moment, and LOVING every minute of this job, I think I've finally found my dream job! Who'd a thunk it aye?

Anyways, it wasn't all honey and roses to start with though. First few weeks were hell on earth! The kid would scream all the time demanding this and that, the dad practically ignored me, I thought there was no TV so it meant I had nothing to do for the 3 hours the kid was asleep. I would come in every day to find a pile of dirty dishes that needed to be washed, and a pile of dirty clothes.

Now the only thing that has changed is that the dad talks to me and is rather nice actually, and I've found the TV lol. I still come in to find dirty dishes (from the night before) and sometimes 2-3 loads of clothes. It's rather annoying but I do it because they are nice people and work so hard that I would rather they get the little time they have to spend with their kid than doing chores (how nice am I)

They are rather messy people I've found...they leave spills and other food stuff lying out, or leave it in the fridge till it's rotted into goo. I've found used nappies in the travel bag or just pilled in the kids bedroom...stinky!

But these are only a few bad things. I don't deal with SC's every day, nor crappy managers and other employees...soooo it does work out

but I DO have to deal with some rather rude parents. I often go to playgroups and other activities with the child. Often they go on and on about "why bother having a child if your going to get someone else to look after them??" and "omg your expensive! those parents must be rich!" (I'd like to note I'm getting the minimum wage thank you very much!)

but yes...as I said all the sc worthy things are gone! I've had LOADS and LOADS throughout the past few months! And yet can't remember them... sad...

hrm OH there is the dirty looks I get, I look young so people think I'm like 18 with a 2 year old. Or the kid is crying because he's tired and I'm just waiting to pay for something and people mutter (geese shut your kid up!) ahhh that one kills me. But hrm...I'll report back if I have anything better.

You're very lucky you've found a job you love. Personally, I don't know as I could do it, so you have my full respect for doing it. The other parents ought to be more concerned with their own kids than berating you anyway.

Let's hope the SC free zone continues for a good while yet!

Uh, yeah why is that? Why is that people assume that a young person with a young child is their parent? I'm glad that when I was babysitting and took the kids down the street the youngest was 6 (I think, I'd been baby sitting her since she was 4 1/2, and they had previously lived out in the country) so it didn't look like she would be my kid. That, and I lived in a small town, people would have known if I had had a kid

The thing is, most people when they think "nanny", they see an old (think gray hair) woman in 1800s getup and a massive carpetbag purse... I know that's what *I* think of immediately (thank you Mary Poppins), but its just a flash, and doesn't have much of an impact beyond that.

Unfortunately as well, is that because there are more and more stories in the news these days about unwed teenage mothers treating their children badly, et al, that it has become the stereotype for ANY young woman with a child under the visible age of 5.

From the title of this thread I was expecting stories about taking an Aardvark to dinner, or maybe going with a Lemur to the movies and drinks.
