  • Captain Jellico, report to sick bay

So I had barely set foot in the building today (I hadn't even punched in yet) when Focker asked "if I'd heard about Captain Jellico."

Me: No. I just got here. Why?

Well, it seems that on his way home, just after he got off the highway, he was rear-ended HARD. Hard enough that he suffered whiplash in his back and was unable to get out of his van under his own power. He tried moving and felt a big "twinge" in his back, so he wisely refused to move without assistance from the EMTs. He ended up being taken to the hospital by ambulance to get looked at.

Except for the severe back pain, he's OK. But he won't be back at work for a few days.

Oh, I feel bad for him! He's probably gonna have permanent back issues now. I think he'll be out longer than a few days.

Sucks about the collision, but I do have to wonder if karma didn't have a helping hand there.

Supposedly he'll be in on Friday. It remains to be seen if this is true.

Well, Captain Jellico was back at work this weekend, apparently none the worse for wear. I asked how his back was, and he said it was fine. They took X-rays and found no evidence of damage, but he had to spend a few days either standing up straight or sitting in rigid straight-backed chairs to alleviate the sitffness. Plus it hurt like hell the first day. But he seemed fine.

So, that's good.....aside from the obvious fact that (and he pointed this out himself) that we are back to having to put up with him.

Sad but true. I wrenched my back working out years ago, and if I flex my trapezius wrong, to this day it feels like someone's jamming a knife into my spine. And that was from a slight error while curling, I can't imagine how bad this'd be...
