Speech Freeze

The other day, I needed to double check on something so I decided to page the bakery employee. She occasionally works the service desk so I thought she might know the answer to my question (which she did). When I saw on the phone that the bakery line was clear, I tried to page her but nothing came out of my mouth. I tried a few more times before I walked over to the bakery.

A little later, my service desk coworker had me page someone to open another checkout lane and the same thing happened. She ended up making the page instead.

Has this ever happened before? Is making pages a normal part of your job? Are you usually nervous when you do it, or are you usually quite calm? I'd be a bit concerned if you are normally quite calm, and you make pages as an integral part of the job. Or maybe I've been watching too much House.

it's not abnormal in my opinion though.
i know i use to have a bit of a stutter.. some words had a hard time coming out.

i found that if i paused for a moment and prepared what i had to say (especially if i was using the 1MC - shipwide announcement system) then it came out ok.

Paging is part of my job especially if I need to transfer a call, call for backup checkers, call checkers/bagger back from break if they take too long, or if a customer needs help. I believe it's happened before but I usually recover quickly.

During the speech freeze, for some reason, I was fine with talking when I wasn't trying to make a page. Yesterday, there were no speech freeze problems.

I stutter sometimes when i'm tired or i've been talking for a while already...i also once in a while get childhood speech impediments that rear their ugly heads...
