  • My encounter with Dumber

Yep, Dumber gave me a jingle today.

I stated, quite clearly, that I will NOT take ANY less money for the work I do. Dumber thinks that her bullshit explanations will bring me around to her level of incompetence.

    Dumber is wrong.

So, she asked me if I received her explanation. I told her that I had, and that my answer is the same (not accepting a discount for the work I do, once I go beyond the arbitrary limit she and Dumb set for us). She kept trying to justify their actions. I would not have any of it.

    "But my explanation..."

"I'm not interested," I interrupted. "You want the same work, in the same quality, for less money. You're trying to steal money from us with this decision, and you have no legal basis, or right, to do so. If you're concerned about saving money for the company [yes, she did indeed try to pull that one on us!], you can either take a decrease in pay yourself, or you can quit."

    She wasn't pleased.

I continued: "There have been many complaints already, and there will be more, until this is settled. I will take this matter as high as I have to."

    Much silence from Dumber.

    "Now. Is there anything else?"

    "No, I think that's all."

Damn well better be. I've run into that type before; give them an inch, and they take a mile. I wasn't about to state my case, either, because the more you talk about your reasons, the more material you give them for their own attempts at justification. I told her how things stand. And I am taking this further.

    UPDATE:

I got this email, written as if I were being the unreasonable one, and suggesting that I might like to stop my cooperation with the company, since the conditions are so unacceptable. I fired back that I am NOT an employee, that she has NO legal right to do this, etc. Really, that woman is a marvel. I simply can't believe that she even has the intelligence to put one foot in front of the other. You tell her something, and she thinks she can talk around it. You tell her something, and she acts as if you haven't said anything.

    Stupid shit.

If I were in your shoes, I'd stop dealing with her and move up the food chain. I've dealt with her type of arguing before, and she is moving into the argue-until-you-wear-them-down phase. Let her bosses know why you're not playing ball under the new rules.

Good luck, and stick to your guns on this.

I'm sticking to my guns, all right. We haven't had any luck with Dumb, as I mentioned before, and Dumb's boss doesn't seem very inclined to take any action, so I've got to go to Dumb's boss's boss, whoever s/he is, and explain the problem.

I'm not the only one who has pitched a bitch about having the two of them "in charge". There have been several complaints about her, and I let her know it (more silence when I informed her of this fact).

Yeah, she thinks that simply by repeating the same information, I'll suddenly say, "Oh, you're right! What a great idea!"

Instead, I'm going to let all the departments know that if we aren't available to provide services to them, this is the reason why - and that they are welcome, nay, ENCOURAGED, to complain to Dumber about it. Several times a day, in fact.
