  • I guess I didn't want to work there anyway...

So, I had sent in my resume for a different job at a different company. The job would have been more money, more paid holidays, better benefits, while working fewer hours in a casual dress code.

Yesterday, I got an email from them that said:

    Dear Mr. Gerrinson,

Thank you for taking the time to attend the interviews with us throughout the hiring process. We appreciate your interest and we had many qualified candidates and we have now made our final decision. Though you did not get the position, thank you for your interest and we will keep your information on file.
Which is polite enough and all, except for one thing. They never interviewed me. They also never responded to my follow up attempt at trying to schedule an interview.

So, I guess I probably didn't want to work for a company with management like that anyway.

Though getting paid more to deal with incompetent management still sounds better than getting paid less to deal with incompetent management.

be thankful you EVEN got a responce. the last time I did the white collar job hunt about 10 years ago, I was luck they even ACKNOWLEDGED receipt of my resume let alone a rejection letter after an interview (rare thing the actual interview was then)

I got a letter like that for a school position. And I still don't know what position it was I was supposed to have applied for.

I got a call yesterday from one of the hotel/casinos I applied at, like, 3 or 4 MONTHS ago.

...maybe I should have taken the interview? I'm not getting paid even the average wage here.

I got a job rejection in a POST CARD once.

When I was a teen, I applied to and was interviewed at a Vanity clothing store.

Apparently, they are such cowards they can't call you or send you an official "You suck" letter. They send you a post card, yeah, one of those things people send to family and friends while on vacation, cutsie poo pictures and scenery and landmarks and whatnot........a postcard from their company saying you didn't get the job.

So the freaking MAILMAN saw that I didn't get the job.

Gerrison, I have a file folder of those letters. I've been looking since February, and I've had one interview. A phone interview. Anyone who's got a job opening is getting inundated with resumes and applications. One letter said they'd gotten 67 applications on that particular job. Apparently, the days of interviewing anybody who applied are gone. Racket Man is right; you're lucky they even acknowledged that you applied. I've had several that never even admitted my existence.

I don't think it's cowardice, I think it's just cost-cutting idiocy. I think the postage is cheaper, I know it's cheaper to get them printed than letterhead is, especially letter + envelope, and they don't have to take the time to stuff the envelope.

It's a stupid and asinine thing to do though, for exactly why you said. Anyone can see it as it goes through the mail. I doubt most people want any random one knowing they were turned down for a job.

That's not too bad... my BF applied for a job at a park and fly place... they had a cashier position open and had recieved over 100 applications (granted, they are paying like $9 an hour to start for cashiering and they promote from within and will assist employees who wish to get passenger endorsements the endorsement so that they can cover shuttle shifts if needed... that alone probably explains half the applicants... people who are hoping to get a free CDL).

The job I have now had 250 (!) applicants. There's a lot of that going around. Easy to see how organizations get confused and forget who they actually looked at. Understandable, but inexcusable.
