It's something we've all probably had to do at some point. Stock shelves.
How do you go about it? I found there was 3 ways to do it, and they all worked with varying degrees of success and failure. Some were better in some ways, but not as good in other ways. For arguments sake, let's pretend we're stocking Coke and Coke products.
Method #1 - Go get all the coke you have. Bring it all out to the stocking location. Stock what you need, put the rest back. This one is good, unless you have absolute shitloads of coke, then you get into the wasting time point. It works better when the shelf is nearly empty, and is an ultimate waste when its more than half full.
Method #2 - Write down specifically what you need, then go into the back and get it. This also works well, unless you have a very diverse selection, then you spend so much time writing down stuff that you waste time better spent elsewhere.
Method #3 - I frequently use this one - it involves just having a good memory and being able to carry a lot at once. I would just look at like one row, and remember that I need 3 cokes, 2 diet cokes, 4 sprites, and 5 fantas. Then I run back, grab those in one big armload, and do it all again. This one may seem inefficient, but it works well if you're pulling a solo shift and can't afford to be in the back room for too long at one time.
