  • Reverse... reverse... chauvinism??

OK I didn't exactly know how to title this lol

Just remembered this from Jester's comments about holding the door for people.

I, shockingly as you may have inferred from my username, am female. I work in a male-dominated building.

I hold the door for people. People hold the door for me (and other people). Just out of common courtesy; hell, mainly out of habit A good habit, but habit nonetheless.

What perplexes me is the (mostly older) men - I will NOT say gentlemen - who REFUSE to let me hold the door for them. I'm talking, regardless of if they're overloaded with packages, in a rush, whatever. They get huffy, or stuffy (very stoic, I guess you could say) and just point blank refuse to let me hold the door for them. Is very I mean, why???
Ne auderis delere orbem rigidum meum! - Don't you dare erase my hard disk!

This is Tech Support, not Customer Service.
    What's the difference?
We're allowed to tell you "no".

I think some just have it so engrained that they can't help it. I've had delivery guys in the south hook doors with their feet to be able to hold it open for me. The most awkward, though, was when I (an E6 at the time) used to have to do the "door dance" with a particular Admiral; I finally gave in and just started letting him open and hold the door.

I hold the door based on who can do it most easily, but there are men who will hold it for me no matter how many packages they're carrying. Oh, well.

The only people who bug me are the ones who will not hold the elevator. If I'm less than 10 feet away, you can hold the damn elevator for 2 seconds!
