  • For all the USA Casino employees!

    Hi everyone!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Wasn't sure where to put this, so Mods can move if necessary.

So, Hubby and I went to Niagara falls on Friday night. (We're from Canada, eh!) We went across the border to the casino in the States. There are signs posted right before you hit the casino floor saying that you must be 21 plus to enter, however, the Security (not sure if thats the proper name) let us in without asking for ID. Now, at Casino Niagara and Fallsview in Ontario, you cannot get in without showing your ID.

Just wondering if it is a rule that you must show ID before getting into a casino in the States?

Or maybe we both just look old! LOL!

Not a hard rule no. Gambling age is 21. It may dependent on state but as far as I know Security at most U.S. casinos will ID you if you look under a certain age. I'm 30 and still get ID'd from time to time.

I do remember Casinos in Ontario being particularly anal about IDing, but the casino I used to go in Quebec was surprisingly pretty loose. I got IDed there a couple of times after my 18th birthday (18 is the age in Quebec) but that was it.

I've been randomly ID'd while playing but never upon entering since around here they all have restaurants in them that we go to. Any time I have cashed out at the cashier (there are machines you can put your ticket into for cash) they have requested my ID.

I sometimes get ID'd at the door at the casino here. It's about a 50/50 chance on if they ID me or not.

Vegas Casinos, it seems you can wander, regardless of age. But if you stray off the paths/sit at a table, then you will have to show ID.

At Casino New Brunswick (in Canada), they do have doormen at the entrance to the casino proper, and you have to show ID there if they ask for it. (If you look old enough they'll wave you through).

I haven't been to a non-Vegas US Casino in a long long time (Can't recall if we walked among the casino floor at Atlantic City when I was there or not), so I can't think of what I encountered then.

It depends on the casino honestly. I've seen many that don't check ID until you get into the gambling section, some until you get ready to purchase a drink and most others right at the door. But if it's a low scale joint they usually won't until you gamble/drink or if you look old some just won't even care.

I wouldn't call most of the places in Vegas low scale and they don't card at the door, only when playing if you look young. Same goes for every casino I've been in here in Nevada.

                Ditto.
I know that a lot of table games will ask for your ID before they sell you chips, but for the slots, unless you look really young, they won't card, because unless there is a pattern of underage gambling on property, the legal consequences go to the underaged gambler, not the property.

Most of the casinos I go to ask for ID when you're trying to trade cash for chips (keep in mind, I only ever play Poker at casinos). They also will randomly have people ask for ID on the floors, just in case.

That said, there are some casinos where people 18+ can go, usually on the reservations since they get to make their own laws. I'm 30 now, so it doesn't help me any more, but I used to make some special trips to those places to make some extra cash
