  • Punk Kid EW gets Pwned by Awesome Bus Driver

Background: Our buses accept cash or tickets as fare (there are also monthly passes and chip cards but that isn't really relevant). Money goes into a locked box the driver can't open. Signs are plastered all over the buses saying the driver will not (read: cannot) make change. Ok End Background.

So the other day I'm on the bus to the train station. We stop in an area that has LOTS of stores, restaurants and other businesses. There's a grocery store with a money services counter less than 2 blocks right down the street. The stop is right in front of a Greens of Wall.

Punk Kid gets on and tells the bus driver "alls I gots is large bills." He then gives the driver that EW Expectant Look (copywrite WishfulSpirit 2016 ) as if she is just going to let him on.

NOPE. She very sweetly told him that he could go get change at the Greens of Wall and the next bus would be along in 20 minutes. He whined, she didn't care, he got kicked off the bus with the obligatory "Imma flip you off for not letting me get something for free that everyone else pays for."

    Made my day.

Good for that bus driver! I HATE IT when other people insist on riding for free, especially when, after long minutes (wasting everyone's time) of whining about it, they finally pony up the cash that they had all along!! Dumb asses.

I would've told him, you can put whatever you want in the box, but there's no change.

I love it when bus drivers won't let somebody try to ride for free! I witnessed something similar just the other day on the way to work, and when the kid started whining about needing to get to work the bus driver told him that if all the kid had was large bills then the kid could afford a taxi ride if they needed to get somewhere that badly.

If you only "gots" large bills then take a taxi. Asshole.

We also have the lovely people who spend several minutes (usually while blocking the door) rooting around in pockets and purses and other various personal garbage containers trying to find two crumpled dollar bills and $0.60 in change. You were sitting at the bus stop for at least 10 minutes. I saw you. Why couldn't you have found your method of payment in that time?

Because that would make sense, and if it makes sense, don't do it.

Good for that bus driver. Kid probably had the correct change in his pocket, just didn't want to use it if there was a chance to get something for free.

I always make a point of breaking a twenty the day before I'm planning on taking the train, so I'll have some fives and singles for the ticket taker. Always feel really bad if the smallest thing I have is even a ten.

I can't decide if this kid was entitled or just lazy. There is a bus stop for the same route right outside the National Grocery Store that has a Money Services counter open till 9 p.m. this was a little after 7 p.m. He could have walked less than a block and gotten change even if the greens of wall didn't have enough in their registers.

But then he couldn't have showily flashed those big bills around like a big important type.

That's assuming he wasn't flashing a Polish Bankroll (a twenty covering a stack of singles) to begin with. Me, I use a pill bag for my bus change.
