MAN was this aggravating. I still can't quite believe this happened.....all business and street names changed to protect the guilty.
OK! My wife had carpal tunnel surgery this past Tuesday at a Boston area hospital. We'll call it the Crusher Medical Center. There's several of them in the greater Boston area. They gave her a scrip for Vicodin, but the pain was still so severe that she could not sleep and spent the entire night crying. she didn't want to look like a drug seeker, but she had to call the surgeon's office to ask for something stronger.
The doctor wrote a new scrip, but unfortunately, due to the strict laws when it comes to painkillers, I had to go pick the scrip up in person (I'd taken a few days off to care for her). Even more unfortunately, the doctor wasn't at the Crusher Medical Center several towns outside of Boston that day, but in the city itself.
Going into Boston to fetch a scrip wasn't exactly what I had bargained for, but I love my wife and she was in tears from the pain, so I went without hesitating.
Anyway, the doctors secretary was VERY specific about where I had to go. 1 Maple St, Riker Building, 2nd floor, Ortho Clinic, and that it was next to the parking garage. I plugged the address into Maps and it came up as McCoy Hospital. I didn't really think much of that, since it's not unheard of for specialists to work at different hospitals. Besides, the address and building name were correct, so off I went.
Traffic wasn't bad at all and I made good time getting there. I parked in the garage and went across to the Riker building, up to the second floor, and to the Ortho Clinic.
And the guy at the reception desk had no clue what I was talking about. He had no info on my wife in his system, and had never heard of the surgeon!
Now, the receptionist was actually very helpful. He checked the CMC directory and found the surgeon. He also called them to verify the scrip was there, and even printed out a map. So kudos to him for going the extra mile.
Turns out, I was at the wrong hospital, but get this......Crusher Medical Center had their main hospital four blocks away at 330 JFK Drive ......and they also had a Riker Building, next to a parking garage, with the Ortho Clinic on the second floor.
Really? REALLY????? What are the odds of that???? I mean seriously! If they had something like that happen on a sitcom people would scoff!
So I walked four blocks to CMC, and sure enough....Riker Building. I went up to the second floor and.....oh jeeze where the hell is Ortho????? NONE of the signs say where any departments are! Just where the different wings/connected buildings are. Well that doesn't help. I found a map, but it didn't list any departments either!!! It was the most useless map I've ever seen!!
Luckily Ortho wasn't very far away so I don't have to wander everywhere. Once I was finally in the right place, getting the scrip was pretty painless.
But here's what I don't understand......how the hell did that secretary manage to give me the wrong address?? Did she not know where she works???
And the best part? The CORRECT address was printed right on the fucking envelope the scrip was in!!!!!
