  • A Sighting of Special Proportions

The main street where my school is has been under construction since the start of the semester. Just recently they've made a "raised" crosswalk; a really large speedbump to force people to slow down while students cross. It's been a big problem here.

Just this past week they've been finishing up, and this morning they were using Scotch tape to mark where they were going to paint arrows on the street to draw attention to the crosswalk. I'm on my way down to the college center for reakfast when I see this silver SUV type thing come flying up the street toward the workers. They duck out of the way and he zooms right over where they were just working. Unfortunately there were no signs or police cruisers around to ensure the '2x speeding fine in work zone' law.

I caught a glimpse of this fine specimen, and he's got the windows up, the radio blaring, and he's smoking a cig. He speeds down the rest of the road, and I'm hearing this sticky, ripping noise.

He's pulled up one of the arrows the crew had laid down and it's now stuck to his back left tire. And as he keeps on going, he pays no mind to the fact that several students and the work crew are now laughing at him because his car sounds ridiculous.

Wow. Have you noticed? There are never cops around when you see stuff like that. But where I am if he'd gotten busted for that it'd be reckless driving which carries either/both $1000 fine and some jail time.

Maybe not always, but some cop somewhere is eventually going to catch these people because they act like that all the time. You won't be there to witness it, but have faith it will happen.

And every now and then you DO get to witness it. Just yesterday we were driving on the highway and noticed traffic in the right two lanes was putting on brake lights and slowing down. Then we saw flashing blue lights ahead of the traffic.

Naturally we slowed down and came to a stop. We could see that the officer had stopped two cars ahead of us and was out picking up a ladder that was in the roadway.

The guy behind us came roaring up, screeched on his brakes and proceeded to honk his horn repeatedly.

The officer stopped what he was doing and directed those of us who had stopped around the debris. When it was the serial beephole's turn, he made HIM stop and wait while he took his time finishing the pickup job.

Last we saw as we went over the next rise, the beephole was still stopped and waiting.
The best karma is letting a jerk bash himself senseless on the wall of your polite indifference.

The stupid is strong with this one.
