  • I got carded today!

    Yep! The first time I've ever been carded at one of those little Mom & Pop alcohol stores in this town.

    I grew up here... when I started buying, they recognized me at the local store & didn't bother carding me.

    Now... 15 years later, a different mom & pop store cards me on my second purchase!

    Man (possibly the owner I'm not sure): *was about to ring me up and stopped and looked at me* You look a little young, I think I'm going to have to card you.

    Me: I'll take that as a compliment! *shows ID with big smile*

    Yep. I feel young now!
    though it also might have been that I was wearing a Quidditch ski cap. It was *cold* outside!

    That's how everyone who gets carded should take that-as a compliment.

      I wonder if I'd get carded at my current place of employment.

      After all, the sting police are out in force again this week.

        At least you didn't get the clerk that couldn't do basic math.

        18 = Lotto
        19 = Cigarettes

        I go in and ask for "2 649 Quick Pick with 1 Encore", and hand him $5. He asks for ID, I show it, he argues that he can't sell to me because I'm under 19, and that he fully understands that the legal age for lotto is 18. (Basically, I said "um.. the age for lottery tickets is 18" and he said "yes, 18, but you are 18")

          I don't think I've ever been carded. Not that I buy wine all that often, but still. Maybe the grey hairs gives my age away?

            if anyone wants to feel young go to the Longs at McCarren and Mira Loma in Reno... at least when I went there their policy was "you all look so stunning and radiant, we just can't believe you are over 21, please have IDs ready"... yup, everyone got carded (and we did actually say that to customers... or at least I did)

              I've only been carded once, and it was when I was on a company trip to Niagara On The Lake, and went to the casino on the Canadian side of the falls. I was 26 at the time, and as I was heading in this big security guard steps in front of me and asks if I have ID. So I show my driver's license, he's satisfied, and off I go to lose about $30. The next day, one of my co-workers from another site looked at me and said, "I envy you... you actually got carded last night." It was further proof to me that I look younger than I am.

                  that's how we should all do it...

                  OTOH, I tend to voluntarily show mine whether they ask for ID or not given that I just turned 18 (legal age to buy alcohol, cigarettes etc. is 18 in Australia, for lotto it's 16 ) but I went bowling the other night with my date, bought a beer for my date and showed my ID while I was paying. She said "oh I didn't want to see your ID but thank you."

                    When I went to that casino I got carded three times, once at the door and twice inside. The first time was flattering, the second time puzzling and by the third I was wondering what I was doing wrong. ...Or right? Seriously though, something that day was setting off the security around me.

                    Not to brag about my stunning looks, but I have a giant forehead and prematurely gray hair so I'm amazed that I get carded so frequently. Guess I'm not wrinkly enough or something.

                      got carded a couple of years ago for cigarettes i was buying for a friend.

                      the irony was that he was younger than me (mid 20s) and i was almost 32. but I got carded.

                      but hey... same reaction as I gave the guy for the rum...

                        I got ID'd for buying Peep Show and The Day Today DVDs the other day. Had a moment of 'Huh?' because it had never happened, then giggled to myself that I could still get away with being under 18.

                          The reasonable side of me knows that since I frequent the same gas stations time and time again, the reason I'm not getting carded for smokes is because the same people serve me week after week after week.....

                          But the unreasonable side of me is extremely vain and paranoid......I didn't think those wrinkles under my eyes were that bad....I didn't realize how "rough" I look after work.....

                          So just to satisfy my own vanity, I make it a point to buy cigarettes without makeup on, if at all possible (with the exception of when I'm going out for a night on the town).

                            *sniffles* The few times I've tried to get alcohol, I haven't gotten carded. I don't turn 21 for another 11 days...Damnit I feel old already.

                              I sincerely hope not. I've been going grey since I was 12.
