  • Is this sucky or funny?

There is this fast food place that I often go to during my lunch and this happens everytime this worker is at the drive through window. I have never found it to be funny because I am tired and just want my food so I can back to work. So I want to know if others find it funny and I am just being to sensitive. This is the exchange that happend last week.

    Me.......me of course
FF.....Fast food guy at the drive throuh window

FF.....MERRY CHRISTMAS! What can I get for you today?
Me.....Can I please have a blah blah blah?
    FF.....NO!
Me.....(playing along as I always do) Oh please come on I am hungry.
    FF.....Well so am I!
    Me.....
FF.....Oh ok then I guess so
    Me.....Thank you.
    FF.....Your total is $610.54!
    Me.....Oh what a bargain.
    FF.....HA!
    Me.....(now at window)
FF.....(collects money and hands over food) Have a great morning! (It is 4 in the afternoon) and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

This guy does this with every customer. I play along cause it gets me out of there faster. It does annoy me and I avoid that place when I am really tired cause I am not in the mood for it. It makes me wonder what other customers reactions are to this guy. I am sure some take it as rude. So what do you all think?

If we ever did that, the consequences would be dire.

Hey, I'm all for being a goofball at work if you can get away with it, but that was just...weird.

        I think I would've been like "Okay, where's the f-ing camera hidden?"

At this point I would be going inside to talk to the guy's manager. That is totally unacceptable behavior on a drive through window, or for any person taking an order.

I had some dude to weird stuff like that to me at Carl's Jr. I wonder if its the same dude. THe last time he made a racial joke and I kind of got silent and he didn't notice. He's really obnoxious...

Oh that would irritate the heck out of me!

Next time he starts in with that crap, just say something like "Dude, I do not have time for this! I came to drive thru expecting quick service. Please just give me my total!"

Maybe then he'll realize that he's not clever, funny or cute and that he's being very annoying and inconsiderate.

but no one else, not every single customer.

I'd say something. It's good to see someone with a sense of humor, but I'm sure the person's manager wouldn't like to hear that they're losing someone's business because they don't want to deal with an employee's jokes.

There's an appropriate time to be funny, and an inappropriate time. If he's holding up business or upsetting customers (which I suspect he might, not everyone has a sense of humor), it can be a problem. I'd tell the manager that you appreciate his sense of humor, but sometimes those things can be ill placed.

I don't really care about the Merry Christmas and other horseshit. I mean, it's dumb, but whatever gets the guy through the day. One of my favorite people at my last job used to say "Goodmorning" no matter what day it was. He'd say it like that, like it was one word. At first, it was kind of annoying, and then it just became a funny little thing he did. That was just his standard greeting no matter the time.

However, the whole "Can I have blah blah" and he says "no." is fucking annoying. When people do that to me, I just get quiet until the situation gets awkward.
Either that or I pretend I don't realize they are kidding and say "Oh. Okay." then ask for something else. Which creates confusion and backpedaling on their part.

I don't think I've ever had anyone do it in the situation you described, but people do that crap in other situations. Some people think that's high comedy for some reason. I am not one of those people who think that.

                      I really hate that.

I used to have a guy do something like that to me as well. Except I was the one working. It was really annoying but he was mentally challenged, so I don't think he understood that it was annoying.

The first job I ever had was a Popeye's Chicken where several of my friends worked. One of my friends used to joke around when he worked the drive-through, and I was always amazed he never seemed to get in trouble. The one time he did, it was because of the following:

                              D: Drive Through Guy
                              C: Customer

D: Thank you for choosing Popeye's Chicken, how can I help you tonight?
                              C: I have a coupon.
                              D: Ooooh, I don't, can I have yours?

She complained to the manager and he got a stern talking to.
