    "YOU GET BACK HERE!!!!"

That's what I heard a male voice shouting outside my apartment last night at about 1230. All I could think was, "O no... domestic violence...." My old apartment complex in Virginia had some domestic violence issues, and believe me... even if you're not involved, you're still affected by the noise and tension.

I turned off the light in the living room and crept into my bedroom to peek out and see what was going on.

Then I realized just who was yelling. Two young women in the parking lot were being approached by two... cops? Very annoyed cops.

The one who I suspect had been yelling started chewing them out for not stopping when he'd ordered them to the first time. Then he asked their ages... 14 and 15. WTF? They looked like they'd been dressed for a club!

So then he yelled at them for being out at that hour. I don't know if this city has a curfew, but it might... and really there's no reason for a 14 or 15 year old girl to be out on the street at 1230 dressed for clubbing.

Then the girls were escorted back the way they came.... I'm only assuming they were taken home in the cop car or whatever. And their parents will be so thrilled.

Oh and the cops did glance up at my window... probably saw me peeking between the blinds, but then they just went back to chewing out the girls. Heh.

This morning when I went out, I looked at the area they'd come from... I suspect the girls had been ... well I know they'd been out... but I suspect they'd been dodging between apartment buildings when they saw a cop car, and got chased for being out late (and at their age).

And it makes me glad to know the cops do come through here just to keep an eye on things... and that it wasn't any domestic violence.

(and an afterthought... my window must not be completely sealed... wasn't hard for me to hear what they were saying. no wonder i'm always cold in there!)

Probably were at a party and the cops busted it. Cops can only go after so many kids so when they pick a small group, they don't give up on them easily.

The cops were being "proactive". Remember: To serve and to PROTECT.

If there is no curfew and assuming they didn't bust them at a party, what right would they have to tell someone how late they can stay out?

At least around here my curfew is midnight at the lastest and on schoolnights its 11.

I'm not exactly sure what the laws are around here but I am fairly certain there IS some kind of curfew for teens under a certain age and it's really only enforced if they get pulled over or busted somewhere by the cops.

If a cop tells you to stop, you're supposed to stop. If they saw people running between the buildings, they should check it out.

There is an entire website at fratching where you can debate to your hearts content legality and proportionality and all those fun things.

This is not the website to discuss those things.

                    oy.

Yeah i was just glad it was the cops yelling and not some domestic violence thing.

and that my neighbors are all saints compared to what i had in virginia...
                    - no domestic violence noise
                    - no people running around with bowling balls for feet
                    - no girls screaming out their orgasms for all the complex to hear.

so.. by comparison this is much nicer and quieter... even with the shout i mentioned above.
and from what i've seen the cops patrol this area anyway...
