  • Library and cars

Decided to exchange my bag of books at the library and was surprised at the level of noise. Not overt just too loud for a place that is supposed to be silent. But some yuppie idiot deemed that his call just had to be answered then (with ringer on high!). Anyways the people on the phone apparently can't hear him so he continues to YELL...thats right, yell in a library! Into the phone. About directions. Thats he's fine. What party they're going to. What they're doing later. And then he wonders around the library (avoiding my lethal death stare) and continues on still yelling into the phone. And all this punctuated by a screaming toddler.

Today while driving home from work I approach construction. No worries they've been doing alot for the 2010 games. So we come to a dead stop because of a construction dump truck hauling a trailer, that wants to turn. The road is clear on the left so a car moves to the other lane almost to be rear-ended by someone who though 90 km was slow. They honk their horn. Not a small "beep-beep" but a "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppp-beeeeeeeeeeepppppp" Repeat for about 2 mins while another pulled in front of this guy and a delivery truck infront of him because the construction truck didn't have enough room appearently. Had to go into the other lane somewhat to turn. The beeper managed to get ahead and then somehow I passed him. Going along my merry way when "beeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppp!!!" Oh my god! Someone going 10 over the speed limit! This idiot zig-zag for almost two blocks till the two lanes opened up because me and this complete stranger where not letting this guy pass. They whole time he was on his horn and tail gating. Though he never actually honk behind me. Though we where going 70 any faster and we'd be in the back seat of the car in front of us. The guy gets past us and goes I kid you not at least a 100 but due to congestion slows down to a crawl again within a few yards.

Had to go to school to pick up some books for a paper. Went to the visitors parking because it would be cheaper. Tried to get in but blocked by a truck with a giant telephone sized dent in the side, just sitting there. Then they decided they wanted to back up and the guy that was standing there almost backed into me who was helping his friend back up.

I don't quite follow the car guy story, but wanted to say, don't get into the habit of blocking the speeders. You're personally safer with them in front of you than behind, and if you do block them, you only aggravate an already aggravated person and likely cause them to make stupid choices about when it's safe to pass you.

Honestly, just let them go and be thankful you're no longer in his way.

      Seconded.

I can't count the number of times I've nearly been rear ended because of some douchewaffle of a speeding driver can't slow down long enough for me to complete the turn onto the street where I live. The streets on both ends of the side street I live on are 50 mph (80kph) speed limit. Most people do 5 to 10 mph over the limit on the road. Trying to turn with someone behind you is almost like playing chicken on a daily basis. I've gotten to the point where as long as its safe to do so I cross left of center to complete the turn just to let the idiots pass me.
