  • Self sighting on the road

I hate looking like a bad driver.
I stopped in a plaza to get some cheetos for a snack, and as I was leaving I saw the arrow to turn and the straight lights were green. The traffic was crazy and I really wanted to make that light. The arrow went away, but I could still turn, and no one was coming straight across(make sense?).
I sped up because I thought the light would change, and as I was turning, I notied a person was walking across the street.
I hadn't seen them until just them because of the thing in between the front of the drivers side window and the windshield.
I sort of swerved into the other lane around them because I freaked out because I JUST saw them, and drove off.
I felt really bad and I'm glad it didn't turn out badly.

-They had the right of way because they were crossing lanes of traffic that had red lights, so I was definitely wrong here. I just felt like an ass.
Not to mention as a pedestrian I'm always afraid of being hit by cars, and when I drive I'm always afraid of hitting people

    these things happen

just try to consider this when you are out and about in future and be more aware of what is happening around you

count it as a learning experience
We are the willing, led by the unknowing, doing the impossible, for the ungrateful, we have now done so much, for so long - for so many, with so little, we can now do anything with nothing!!!

It is a learning experience, yes, but "these things happen" is a lot too light. These things don't happen, they shouldn't happen, and you should endeavour to learn from this experience so that this never happens to you again.

It appears you already know this, so I'm not sure what your intention by posting it is. You don't need to be told it was wrong, you know it. You're not looking for sympathy, cos you admit you were wrong. If you're looking for a fuzzy "aw, it doesn't matter" then I sincerely hope you never find it.

It matters. You could have killed someone.

Learn, and move on, which it seems like you might be doing, so yay. Just don't expect fuzzies over being such a bad driver.

And a related tale - I lookd like a bad driver on the road today too, due to assumptions.

I wanted to go straight through but was controlled by Give Way. There was a lady coming from my left, turning left into the street I wanted (we drive on the left). She had the right of way.

I started to pull out, as I could see that by the time she turned, I could pull in after her and be out of the way of the car approaching from my right (plenty of time, non-hazardous). I *assumed* she knew the road rules and would be out of my way quick-smart.

Instead she took my starting to move as if she had to give way to me because she was turning and I was going straight, or something ... She stopped. I'd started to move so now I was in the middle of the intersection, with traffic coming. So I had no choice really, I kept going.

Made it look like I thought she had to give way to me, but I was only planning to slot in behind her after she'd moved through.
