  • Some Parenting Skills You Have!!!

SO and I went to Target to find one of those USB lights for our laptops. While were browsing the aisles for it, we see this boy about 8-10 years old riding around in one of those scooters. The entire time this little shit was playing around on it and we kept hearing it beep too. Unfortunately for me and SO we didn't find what we were looking for (turns out that it was only available online), so as we were headed out, we see another kid that looked a little younger than him or about the same age riding around and playing in one of the motorized scooters too! Oh Heeeeeelllllll NO! SO had enough, he went right up to those two little punks and asked them were their parents were, and lo and behold the mother comes right up but didn't say a peep. SO is a pretty big man (6'9" 300+ lbs.), so those kids blurted out like how they were gonna put the scooters back right away.....sure. SO berated to those kids how lucky they were not his otherwise they would've been whooped in the store for that. The father comes up and starts yelling at SO and how stupid SO is for telling his little punks otherwise and for SO to shut up and SO retorted back about how stupid the father was for letting his brats ride around the scooters like they're toys. If the father said another word...let's just say fists would be flying, but thankfully that didn't happen, since we walked out of the store before the father could even utter another word. It's just sad that a total stranger who is not even a father himself had to teach those kids about not using scooters in the store as toys instead of their own parents.

Now you have a rough idea about what it's like for many teachers these days.

The number one reason why teachers leave the profession is because of discipline problems.

Which is the exact reason I will never teach in the public school system. At least with the college "kids," I can kick them out of the classroom when they become too disruptive!

After having been assaulted, screamed at, and generally ignored, yes, I can definitely say that discipline issues are one of the primary reasons I'm reconsidering my career choice.

        It really is unbelievable.

My mother asks me every few months why I won't become a teacher. I told her that ignorance can be taught, but you can't fix stupid. I don't deal well with stupid. Especially from people who should be old enough to know better.

I teach primarily "developmental" aka remedial Algebra. Which means, thanks to the good intentions of the State of Texas, approximately 75% of my students are enrolled in my classes because they "have to" be there. It's generally the other 25% that keep me teaching--the ones that know they are not prepared for "college level" courses, or who just want a review before jumping back in after years of being out of school.

Props to you & SO for saying something! Maybe the parents will think about watching their kids better next time. By the by... 6'9''?!? Geez!

I can believe it. I got yelled at tonight by some little precious snowflakes parent for daring to tell off their twin three year olds at the gym. The kids were running on top of the raised sidewall of the hottub, a good three feet off the ground on a concrete floor. One slip on the tiles and it would have been kid brains ravioli all over the floor. And kids are forbidden in the hot tub area in the first place.

You need a license to drive a car or own a dog but not to have a kid. Something wrong with that.

Don't any of these idiot parents realize they are endangering the safety and life of their precious lil snowflakes. You know they'd be the first ones to sue.
