Mr Jedi and I ran to Wally World this afternoon to pick up a few things. As we were wandering the garden area, we heard this high-pitched mewing. Mr Jedi mentioned it sounded like a cat. So we peeked in the corner where they had their ferns displayed and sure enough there was a box with a tiny, frantic little kitty inside. My initial reaction:

I picked up the tiny fuzzball and tried to get it to drink some provided formula while hubster went to find an employee. A few minutes later he reappears and tells me that the employees already knew about the kitten. Apparently, someone had LEFT THE KITTEN and the employees found it in the potting display. Someone had found a box and donated a sweatshirt, some formula, and a shady spot and one of the employees was going to take it home.

Now, this kitten was WAY too young to be left on it's own. The poor thing didn't even have teeth yet and was barely able to crawl around the box. Mr Jedi got it to drink some of the formula and it quieted down after that. My cat allergy on a scale of 1-10 is around a billion, Mr Jedi really doesn't like cats, and we have a bird and a dog at home already. But I was ready to take that little one home right then and there to make sure it got the care it needed. Surely SOMEBODY we know would have been able to adopt it. It just breaks my heart that people can be so cruel to such helpless little creatures. Thank goodness a WalMart employee had room in their heart and home for a new furbaby. I hope the little thing makes it.

Sadly, I'm not surprised. My neighborhood is apparently a dumping ground for unwanted animals. As I was walking the dog I saw a little beige poodle that a woman had found -- she asked if I recognized it, but I don't think it's a neighbor's. Our beagle Olive also came to us because someone didn't want her anymore and couldn't be bothered to take her to the shelter.

      Poor thing!!

All of my babies I've had since I've been on my own have been strays or ones that friends found abandoned and couldnt keep for themselves. Breaks my heart and angers the crap out of me to see what some people will do to little baby animals There are times I wish I could afford to run my own no-kill shelter...instead I try to make a monthly litter-and-food donation to the nearest shelter in Bellevue.

I t hink the kitten has a good chance of making it......my family hand-raised three kittens who were found in similiar circumstances, and two of them will be celebrating their 14th birthdays this summer. (the third kitten didn't make it past a few months, but that was for health issues unrelated to being abandoned)

My cats Moofie, and her dearly departed sister Neka, were found in a similar situation, according to the Humane Society volunteer that fostered them. They were found in a barn as teeny-tiny kittens, their eyes and ears stiill closed, and umbilical cords still attached! Fortunately, the people who found them took them in and raised them, giving them to the HS once they were fully weaned. Sadly, Neka had to be put down last year, after she got a malignant tumor that left her severely debilitated, but her sister Moofie lives on, and turns 8 this year.

When we found Baby, her eyes were still shut and she could only be fed with an eyedropper. She made it just fine.

              Poor kitty

It's nice to hear that it has a happy ending though. Hand-raising kittens takes a lot of effort and I'm glad to hear that somebody has the time and energy to do so.

That's pretty sad. Our pit-bull puppy went home with us four weeks too early because the owners insisted they had to get rid of them at that time. Yes they're like human babies: They cry a lot, have to be fed formula, and a lot of attention. Luckily for us our puppy is doing great and she's become a real sweetheart.

Wow. Are they sure it was a customer, and not a mama kitty, carrying her babies around to find the best place?

me and my other have 11 cats at this point. We started out with three girls, they were supposed to be indoor cats so we didn't get them fixed. One of them got out and had 4 kittens later, 3boys and a girl. We waited a lil' too long to get them fixed cuz right after we did two of our cats had kittens, 3boys 3girls, we are absolutely getting them fixed on time this run around. I would never just leave them somewhere. BTW the humane society in our area makes you pay $70 to drop off unwanted pets.
