  • I had every right to be a SC but I refrained. . .

A few of my friends have been waitresses and they have told me some pretty horrific stories about @$$hole customers. So I always try to be polite and courteous to my servers. After all the best advice for anyone is = NEVER fck with the people that handle your food!

After a long day at a popular theme park (sidenote: If you want zero lines and lack of crowds make sure to go during the middle of the week when most people are still in school and there is a chance of rain. It was the most fun!) my friends and I decided to stop at a popular chain (i think it is only common in the upper north east coast but I could be mistaken - that happens) before our 2 hour drive home.

    I think they might have been short staffed that night or something;
    - we waited 5-7 minutes before our waitress acknowledged us but we were not in a real big rush so it didnt really bother me that much
    - when she brought out our drinks she stopped at another table first and talked to them.
    - my friend ordered a Tuna Melt because it was part of a 9.99 deal (drink, entree, and sundae). She brought out a Turkey Melt with bacon (my friend can't eat bacon) but at least she withheld the tomato. Unfortunately, it was not one of the entrees listed in the 9.99 special. She was afraid to send her food back so she ate it anyway and just took off the bacon.
    - the waitress never came to check on us once.
-i flagged her for a refill and she glared at me.
    - when she brought out our refills she stopped at yet another table first and talked to them. Meanwhile I am dying of thirst.
    - i ordered a mint chocolate chip ice cream sundae cause mint is my favorite flavor. . . i got a plain chocolate chip ice cream.
    - my other friend found a kit kat piece at the bottom of his raspberry frozen yogurt. . . and he is allergic to chocolate!
    - finally when it was time to pay we stood at the register for 10 minutes before someone greeted us. WE could have left without paying.

I thought about complaining to the manager or something. But again I think they were short staffed because the manager was busy with assisting other customers. I think our waitress might have been hard of hearing too.

But i decided since it was 9:30pm and we still had a 2 hour drive home it was best to just be on our way. I wanted to complain - not to get a free meal or anything - but just to let them know so that when the next customers come along (who might not be as nice and accommodating as us) will have a more enjoyable service.

Why be an SC? Just leave no tip.

You should've spoken up when they brought you the wrong things though. They can only walk over you, if you let them.

There's a difference between complaining and being a SC. You just need to complain in a pleasant tone.

Wow, that place needs a heads up about the service that waitress is giving.

There is absolutely no reason to not speak up when you get something other than what you ordered, or you find something "foreign" (even when it's just other foodstuffs) in your item.

If everybody just kind of ignores this sort of thing, someone might end up hospitalized or dead because something they're allergic to was in the food they got served. I have a friend who nearly died because some waitress couldn't be arsed to actually learn what was in the food she served him.

            Definitely agreed.
Maybe call their corporate number just to let them know? Do you remember the server's name?

I would put in a complaint about the service, especially when they put in chocolate in your friend's sundae and he's allergic to chocolate. That sort of negligence could wind up being a huge liability factor for the business.

Oh, I see that you went to the <restaurant> near my house (if not, close friggin' enough). I've had nothing but BAD experiences at that place, with one exception at a <restaurant> in a completely different area from where I live. The waitress was so nice there I actually left her a near 50% tip and wrote on my slip that she'd saved my hope in <restaurant>, what little I had left.

The one by my house is absolutely terrible. One time in high school it took them 25 minutes to take our drink order. We were a group of 10, and while I admit we were a bit boisterous, we had every intention of having a decent, quiet meal which we wanted to pay for. After our drinks it took them another 20 minutes to get our food order, an hour to actually bring it to us, and nearly 30 minutes for ice cream. There were two other tables occupied at the restaurant, both of which were complaining that their servers were ignoring them. In fact at one point one of my friends got up to find a server and found them hanging out on top of the ice cream coolers, chatting. The manager didn't care when we complained at all, he didn't even apologize for the slow wait time. Finally when it came time to pay we stood up there for, I kid you not, 20 minutes. There was a guy in front of us who politely leaned over the counter to the people who were sitting around talking and requested that he would like to pay. People blew him off.

I do NOT condone dining and dashing, but we did it that day. What should have been an hour long meal took nearly 3, the server was rude beyond all contention, the management didn't care, and we tried to pay. I was utterly disgusted with the service I received there.

Word got around that they got new management, but the next time I went, I still had a very rude server. I have no faith in that place anymore, and tell anyone who's looking for a meal and ice cream to try somewhere else. That chain has such a bad reputation from what I've heard. I'm sorry you got such cruddy service. Next time at least try to speak up for a manager, and pray you don't get the one I did.

Wouldn't happen to be the Friendly's out by Hersheypark, would it? I've had issues with that chain in the past. You can almost always count on slow service with them.

I'm sorry, but if I'm TRYING to pay for a horrific experience, and you're refusing to let me pay, then I guess you really don't want my money, eh?

But in order for me to even consider that, the service has to be sucktacular to a staggering degree. This isn't mere apthy. This is actively trying to be as horrible as possible.

I was actually wondering if it was the one near Sesame Place, although I've had pretty good experiences there.

I actually worked for Friendly's for six years, and I can assure you that the problems you run into are almost always due to short staffing.

I can forgive short-staffing. I know how that goes.

But its also easy to tell the difference between hard working yet overwhelmed people, and people who don't simply give a damn.

And if it's a corporate policy to short staff, the people will start giving a damn less and less....and then....

That what I always though, while the service was generally slow, our food was almost always hot, which normally means it's the kitchen not the server. I can deal with the wait, my wife and i just both bring books.
