I don’t know what to call this but it is probably closest to a sighting.
Today we went to my sister’s college graduation in The Big City and had to park in a parking garage. We paid our $10 and were given a white parking stub to place in the front window. Well, we forgot our tickets
so my mom and I went back home for them, leaving the rest of the family at the stadium. When we got back, we showed the girl at the booth our parking stub and she informed us it was the wrong one—that it didn’t belong to them. We could, however, park with them for $10. My mom tried arguing with them but we were running late so we paid them another $10 and were given a pink parking stub.
After the ceremony, we were able to get hold of a manager who first tried to convince us that we really had parked in another garage (we hadn’t, the route we took actually dumped us right into this parking garage and there weren’t any others around), lying about the person who was on duty both times (it was the same girl but she claimed she wasn’t there an hour before when we first went in), trying to say the ticket we had must have already been in our possession from some other trip to town, and basically implying we were pulling a scam but that they had no choice but to refund our money.
Oh, and the white parking stub? Came from a garage across town. Not across the street, across town. We don't even go into The Big City unless we absolutely have to, and don't usually use the parking garages--most places we go to have street parking or we take public transportation and avoid the parking problem altogether.
So, my parents think the girl is scamming her employer, but I can’t think of how it would work. Why give us a fake stub? The only thing I can think of is that they have to keep track of the stubs and the money taken in has to match the stubs taken out. So, for instance, if she had 10 stubs and sold 7 stubs she should have $70 and 3 stubs left over. If she gave out a fake stub and pocketed the money then she would still have the correct amount of stubs and money at the end of the day.
So, to any of you work in a parking garage or similar job is this scenario possible?
