  • Disabled(?) W**ker

Not sure if this actually falls under raodkill or sightings.... Please move if you feel the need....

I was at my local shopping centre the other day, and as I pass the disabled car spot near the doors, what do I see but a fully loaded, tricked out import with customer paint job, chrome as far as the eye can see and all the bells and whistles proudly parked in a handicapped spot. As i wandered passed I noted there was no disabled permit displayed. Please note the car park was fairly empty and there were ample parking spots about 20feet from where he had parked.

Upon leaving about 30mins later I noted it was still parked there. I got back to my car, dug around and found a blank post it note and wrote the following

"Being a Wanker does NOT qualify as a disability"

I left this note stuck to his driver window.

Was I bad??? I just hate the mentality of some people who think that the rules dont apply to them.

Love the note, but be careful. You never know when the owner will come out of the store and decide to turn you intoa pretzel for messing with his baby, no matter how illegally he parked.

The note is funny, but if you really want the wanker to learn, just report him to the cops. I'm sure the local jurisdiction would be very pleased to rake in their share of the $250 fine

Not to mention the chance of selling someone's 'pimped out' penis extension at auction, if the person didn't come get it from the impound for whatever reason.

Reporting them to the cops has the added benefit of not getting you pretzeled, too

You would've been much better off reporting the scofflaw to the police. The citation they'd give him for illegal parking in a handicapped spot would hurt him far worse than your note would.

And also, that note could've gotten you hurt since some people will beat up anybody who even looks sideways at their penis replacement.

Agree with the sentiment. People parking in handicapped spots when they aren't is low. And if they don't have a permit, they're probably not disabled. However, I also agree with everyone else. Anyone who puts that much time on their vehicle could be dangerous if you'd been caught.

The most recent thread I saw on disabled permits mentioned that sometimes people forget to put them up, and sometimes people don't look for the permanent plates you can get instead of the placards.

There's a possibility either of these is the case. Disabled people can pimp their rides too.

Yeah it possibly was not the smartest move if the idiot had come back and seen me put the sticker on the window. I will put that down to being not quite with it that day.

In regards to calling the cops???? This was inside the carpark of the local shopping centre and legally, to the best of my knowledge, the standard road rules are not actually enforcable as it is classed as private property and not public road.

I did consider contacting security in the centre, but never saw one to talk to.

Honestly, I see a lot of high-end vehicles with owners who just honestly forgot to put their cards in the window. Happens all the time to me, it's under the seat or in the glove box, etc. A disabled person can have a tricked-out car too.

But, I do see a lot of employees parked in the handicap spots, and while I know they're entitled to use them, it does tie-up a parking space for 9-hours. Oh well, not my place to judge.

If they were handicap, your note will probably remind them to make sure they put their card up next time!

I'm assuming you're in the UK? I don't know how the laws are there, but in the US, even in the parking lot at, say, Wally World or the mall, the cops are able to go in and ticket for this offense. I've seen them do it, usually in response to another driver or the store calling them.

No one said they couldn't. However, it is not an unreasonable assumption to think that "no permit displayed = not disabled." While some people do forget to put up their tag, it's less common than the other circumstance of someone not disabled appropriating the spot for their own purposes. It's simply not an assumption that raw needs to justify, nor does it need to be pointed out.

If it's in the U.S., police can ticket offenders for blocking fire lanes, parking illegally in handicapped spots, and such, even if it is private property.

I would have called the police, because even if the pimped out ride belonged to a handicapped driver or to someone driving around someone handicapped, it never hurts to have a reminder to put up your placard.

plus... i personally don't like doin stuff against cars parked in the handicapped spot unless the car doesn't have the sticker and the driver or passenger obviously doesn't need the spot.

cos i remember mom's story once where she saw a car parked illegally in one of the spots
but then she saw the driver was an old man who was obviously had a hard time walking, so she didn't bother calling the cops.

but ... yeah if you're in doubt call the police.
chances are it was a wanker who felt he was better than everyone else... but the police can determine if the driver actually qualifies for the spot or not

If I remember correctly, in the US (maybe just California), police cannot enter a private parking area and ticket vehicles unless invited to do so by the property owners or their representatives.

Basically, to get some jerk who is illegally parked to get a ticket, you have to convince a manager to call the cops on them. I've yet to get in touch with someone in a store that gave a damn about people hogging the handicapped spots without tag or placard. Hell, most of the time, they won't call on people in the fire lane, and that can get the store fined a ton of money.
