  • Isn't He a Bit Old for That?

I hardly ever got to post because I don't go out much, but here's one from the drive in to work this morning.

I'm behind the wheel, and just about to turn when I spot this mother walking along with her son in a stroller.

This might seem pretty normal until you notice the fact that said son is crying his eyes out, working himself into a fine tantrum; he's just started in with the foot stomping and kicking. Also of note is that the son is at least 5, possibly as old as 7, and is too big for the stroller, to the point where his head sticks up several inches higher than the back of the stroller itself and with his tantruming, had to have been smacking himself on the bar that goes across the top.

Unless the child has some condition, physical or mental, that makes the stroller necessary, he is definitely too old to be in one.

I've seen a lot of really big kids in strollers; I just wonder if the parent's don't feel like keeping track of them, or if the kids insist on riding because they're just that spoiled. I saw one I swore was 10 or 12.

You aren't alone. I have seen kids who are probably old enough to be in at least kindergarten or 1st grade still in strollers....although by that point, the stroller is the size of a small sedan.....

I think unless the child has some sort of physical or mental handicap, they should be out of the stroller well before they start school.

I'd assume that the kiddo had some sort of issue, and probably wasn't "typical". Kids can look all sorts of "normal" and not be.

Still, I HAVE seen kids I know are typical in strollers long after they're too big, and when they aren't necessary.

Though, the double stroller we rented at disney--was awesome--and we had my nephew who was 7 at the time, and my older son, who was then 3. But that was a special circumstance, and it was nice to let them just chill when they're legs got tired and mouths got whiney.

we has a lady come into the store whose son was like that. way to big for the stroller and he didnt want to be in it. but she made him so she could hide stuff in the stroller to steal.
her being busted was an epic day.

An ex-friend of mine has a sister-in-law who would put her then 5-year-old into a stroller whenever she & her hubs would take him out. She said he was her "baby" and she didn't want him "growing up too fast". The kid didn't seem to be bothered, and he was a normally developing child, so he really shouldn't have been placed in a stroller to begin with.

I wouldn't be too quick to estimate a child's age.

When they moved here, a CW's child was only 3 so a stroller was appropriate. However, he looked about 6. He's now 13 and is six feet tall.

Even if that's the case, the kid was still way to large for the stroller he was in.

It's not unusual to see children as old as six in strollers here...but that's Italy.

In American circumstances, unless you're at Disney or something as stated above, yeah, it's a little weird.

What really shocked me was seeing my Bangladeshi friend hand feeding her eight-year old child. Apparently, it's normal there? IDK.
