  • Smoking pot at a concert and getting caught...

I just came back from a Green Day concert and it was amazing!

There was a guy in front of me that was smoking pot and he got caught by the guards and him and his friends had to leave. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO RUIN YOUR CHANCE OF SEEING A GREEN DAY CONCERT?!! Smoke your pot at home.

It seems like whenever I go to a concert and see people smoking pot openly and brazenly, they never get caught. It's like the guards don't care. I'm like WTF too because my state prohibits smoking pretty much everywhere.

I was at an Oasis concert last year and the guy next to me, who was sitting on the aisle no less, was smoking a joint and not being secretive at all about it. The guards walked up and down the aisle next to him on many occasions, even while he was puffing away and did nothing. I wasn't mad at him though, he was a nice guy and a good seat neighbor. However, I was pretty appalled by the situation. WTF are the guards there for if not to enforce the rules?

That's crazy. They should enforce these rules with smoking pot and cigs. It could bother everyone around them.

I'm glad this guy got caught because I can't stand the smell of pot plus surprisingly at a Green Day concert, there were 10 yr old kids and younger! They shouldn't be exposed to that.

I think he was paranoid, or was he just stoned?

While I agree that people shouldn't be blatantly smoking out in public like that.

At the same time... it's a rock concert, what do you expect? I mean me and some friend went to Ozzfest one year, and we actually walked through the crowd trying to sniff out who had the best pot, so we could mooch off of them.

(This was like 8 years ago, when I was in highschool, I don't smoke anymore though.)

I haven't been to many concerts (though more than I expected to be if I really start to think of it), but of the ones I have been to, both outdoor and arena concerts, I've come to realize that security is there mainly to keep the peace and safety, and less to enforce the rules. So if you want to toke up, go right ahead. You want to get into a brawl, you're gonna be tossed out fast enough to make your head spin. Especially for the outdoor concerts. (Granted my outdoor concert experience amounts to Ottawa Blues Fest, Stardust Picnic in Ottawa, the Stones and the Eagles, so a certain amount of drugs was to be expected, especially at the latter two.)

Still, going back to the OP, I'm surprised that they were booted for that, especially at a Green Day concert. Was it an outdoor or indoor concert? Indoor concerts, getting back to what I mentioned above, do seem to be more enforced (smoking rules wise) than outdoor events.

Smoking in public is pretty much like having a big blinking neon sign saying "ARREST ME!!!"

Heh, I recall the Pink Floyd concert where the laser light show was awesome mostly due to a low lying haze over the entire arena. Of course, if you expect different at a Pink Floyd concert you probably didn't pay much attention to their history.

That's pretty funny considering Green Day's name comes from the pot-smoking habits they had, or still have. At least that's what I've read.

When I was in high school, I would've loved seeing them live. Now? Not so much. I've outgrown them and I think they're trying too hard to stay relevant by becoming overtly political.

I wonder if concert security guards don't secretly appreciate the pot-smokers? Seems like they would have to deal with a lot less instances of violent behavior

I remember going to Jimmy Buffett concerts and the haze would be so thick that I hoped I wouldn't have to take a Pee-Pee test within the next week

One can still get away with toking in public at our outdoor arena here, if one is somewhat discreet about said toking.

Not that I would know ANYTHING about such behavior!

My mother used to tell me about her hippy days, where you could go to a concert, pass around your pipe. And not only would you get it back, but it would be refilled!

somehow, just by reading the thread title, i knew the setting would be a green day concert. XD

i went to the detroit show on the 14th, it was absolutely incredible, and as far as i know, no one got busted for pot. that does not mean, however, that no one HAD pot.

hell, at one point in the concert billie leaned over to grab someone's hat and straightened back up fairly quickly, laughing and saying "did you guys just see that like, cloud of fuckin weed that just blew up in my face? fuckin awesome, man" and then laughed for about thirty seconds. XD
verily, i doth be a buckete.
