I was reading in the newspaper a woman who had an expired E-Z tag to use on the tollways. She racked up something in the range of $7,000-$13,000 dollars worth of fines and was arrested when a cop pulled her over for something else. And she did say that she knew it was expired.

I decided to check her name in our system to see if she owed us money, but oddly enough, she has a library card with us but owes us nothing.

Holy COW! Even on the low end, that is a LOT of EW-ishness. Okay, so that totally is not a word, but it fits so well! How much do those EZ passes cost, anyway? Like $50 at most I would guess, maybe $100 if you live in some states, but I can bet it doesn't come CLOSE to $13,000. I hope she does jail time just for being an idiot.

EZ-pass is a transponder so the tollway computer knows to debit your (pre-paid) account rather than you having to stop and pay a cash toll at each toll booth. Still, $7000-$13000? I routinely drive I90 between Buffalo and Syracuse, and it costs roughly $30 each way (unattended lane blocked, misread on attended lane at entry, so was handed a ticket showing the toll to each exit). Even at the low end, that's around 230 trips - and I'm sure her tolls are less than for an 18 wheeler.
