  • One from today...

As I'm waiting in line at the local "Square L" today, there were some interesting people in line. Mostly older folks who come and buy lottery tickets. But, one guy really stood out. Why? Well, he was heavily tattooed--arms, legs, neck, everywhere. Looked like something you'd see at the circus Seriously though, upon closer inspection, I saw that this fool had a *swastika* on the back of his head. Right behind me, is an older, but somewhat large black gentleman. I'm sure he saw the tattoo, plus the "white power" line below it. I could tell he wasn't pleased, and for a minute, I thought I'd possibly get caught in the crossfire Swastika idiot wasn't exactly sucky. But still, what the hell was he thinking? If he went into the wrong neighborhood...

He was probably heading for a town hall meeting.

You're assuming that thinking had anything to do with it.

What you described sounds a lot to me like prison tattooing.

Uhh... maybe he is of the Shinto religion? And "white power" translates from Japanese to English as "peace for everybody!"

That, or maybe he's just a complete a**hole

I like the philosophy of the guy who did my tattoo. He said he is more than happy to do a swastika or some hate related gibberish as a tattoo for someone. They want it from him? It will have to be on the head or hands or somewhere you can't easily cover up day to day constantly. If you want a hate based tattoo he wants you to be forced to show your stupidity permanently so that people can see it on you, can see you for what you are the moment they meet you.

              /nitpick

IIRC, the swastika reversed is known as manji in Japanese and is primarily used in Buddhist and Hindu religions. (wiki-fu works wonders)

Yep, it was originally a symbol for good luck...as used by many groups. IIRC, there's one inside an airplane propeller at the Smithsonian for that very reason. Nothing really associated with that symbol. That is, until Adolf Hitler and his goose-stepping idiots chose to use it for evil purposes

What if the person is Navajo or Hopi? Off the top of my head, I can think of the KiMo Theatre and the old Federal Building on Gold here in ABQ that have swastikas as decorative motifs. Nobody thinks a thing of it.

Not everyone that uses it is a Neo-Nazi symbol. Unfortunately, because of that belief, in 1983, NMSU had to change the name of it's yearbook. A yearbook that had been around since 1907....and NMSU no longer has a yearbook.
