  • When you are late for a movie...

A friend and I went to see District 9 today, awesome movie, highly recommend it, but is it any wonder hardly anyone goes to the movies anymore when there are so many inconsiderate people around.

We were FIFTEEN minutes into the movie, when a family of four walked in. Mother, father and two teenagers, probably aged between 14 and 16. Now, when you walk into a movie, especially an awesome movie, fifteen minutes late, you are supposed to show some consideration.

Did they sit at the first seats they came across? No, they did not. They walked all the way up the stairs, towards the back row, searching for the ideal view, obstructing the view for other people.

They then came to a complete standstill, and seemed to start having an intimate family discussion about where to sit. They finally decide which row to sit on. Do they sit on the first seats they come to on this row?

Of course they don't. They walk into the centre of the row, all four of them actually climb over a couple who are trying to watch the movie (no apology I might add) and sit themselves directly in front of me (just my fucking luck) The mother of the group then starts rummaging through her handbag, very loudly, and starts asking the family which snacks they want!

I don't think they enjoyed the movie very much, because they left fifteen minutes before it finished, creating just as much disturbance as they did before.

Actually, they're probably theatre hoppers. They'd just go from screen to screen and see as much as they can without getting caught. They don't really care about the movie, probably.

Sorry you had to put up with that. I agree that District 9 was fairly decent though.

I'm a huge movie fan, but I almost never go to the theater any more because of people like that.

If there's something that has me really really excited, I'll go, but never on opening week, or a weekend. I'll go to either the earliest matinee or latest show on a mid-week day after its been out for awhile.

For everything else, I'll wait until about 2 weeks after it comes out on dvd and buy a used copy for less than the price of a theater ticket.

Boyfriend and I went to see Ironman a few years ago.

Things were great until a group of about 8 teenage boys came in...and sat right next to us. (the 100something other EMPTY seats in the theatre just werent right for them I guess)

Movie hadnt started yet, but they were pretty loud, constantly getting up and going up and down the steps to go get snacks, or pee or something. Five minutes before the movie starts, about 8 teenage girls walk in together. There's still tons of empty seats and they could have sat anywhere. So, of course, they sit in the row directly in front of us.

Movie starts, and that's when the fun began. These kids were constantly texting each other...the girls would text the boys, the boys would text back...occasionally the boys would climb over my boyfriend and I to go talk to/touch one of the girls. Then, crawl back over us. (there was nothing obstructing them from walking on the other end of the row...not sure why they seemed to insist on pissing us off)

I had to buy the movie on DVD to finally get to see everything I missed that night.

Boyfriend and I should have gotten up and gotten our money back and left, but we kept hoping the kids would shut up and turn their phones off. We dont go to the movies as often as we used to because of what went on that night.

I can't stand this anymore. Now when the wife and I go, its always, always, ALWAYS to the first show of the day, and never never Fri or Sat.

The last time we went to an evening show, it was Fantastic Four, and this group of four teenage-ish girls sat down two rows behind us and Did. Not. Shut. Up.

About fifteen minutes into it, I finally turned around and said in the loudest voice I could manage 'Isnt it annoying when people talk during a movie you are trying to watch?' Wife dragged me out of the movie and we got compensation tickets for another show. :P From what I could tell, after giving me that typical shocked 'OMG you did not just talk to ME, old man??' look, they kept right on.

            Sigh.

Thank you, Netflix and my 61" TV.

You'd think theater hoppers would try to be a bit more discreet...

I try to avoid movies until after they've been out a couple weeks at least. I saw Harry Potter the second week it was out, I think. It was a Saturday so I was actually surprised it wasn't more crowded, but the woman behind us kept making stupid comments to her friend, in a voice barely lower than a normal speaking voice. The person I was with finally turned and shushed her. Wonder of wonders, she actually shushed!

Here here...I have my 65 inch tv, netflix, on demand, and surround sound

Although my boyfriend has a bad habit of talking during a movie or a show I'm watching, and he doesn't have the attention span to just sit through a whole movie without getting up 2 or 3 times.

My brother has the Blockbuster version of Netflix...when he's done with them he gives them to my parents, who then offer them to me. Some movies get passed along to my aunt and uncle. Whoever gets them last just drops 'em in the mail.

But... standing at concerts is typical. As is the constant running for more beers.
Then again me and my friends go to metal concerts where not only is there not a single ass in a seat, but people are standing on their chairs and chugging beer like it's going out of style.
