  • Nearly jumped out the car and strangled the guy

Flatmate and I were driving into town to see the new Star Trek movie with friends when this happened.

So I was driving down a street, no intersections involved. A van parked on the same side of the road as I'm driving, decides that approx 5 metres infront of my car is a good time to start pulling a U-turn. I, naturally, hit the brakes and the horn and thankfully don't hit the side of him. He finishes his turn (I've started cussing up a storm in my car at this point) and casually waves to me as if to say "hey thanks for stopping" and carries on his way.

The wave is what really annoyed me, no reaction to the horn, and just how casual it was, really ticked me off.

I don't understand why people drive like morons, in a company vehicle with logo's plastered along the side.

I did ring the courier company, gave them time and location but didn't get his rego, so they couldn't pick out which driver it was. The manager did apologise on behalf of the company, and said he would bring it up at their weekly meeting with all drivers. I can understand that, again given I didn't get the rego.

Thankfully he was the worst idiot that night, there were a few others with bad senses of timing (Sure, your car and trailer have enough time to clear me when I have right of way and am almost infront of you...), lack of indicators (I'm not a mind reader, and if I was, you need something for me to read) aaaaaand tailgaiting assholes (oh no.... my driving exactly at the speed limit where you cant pass me in retaliation is annoying you? too bad, so sad.).

And people wonder why I drink once I'm home for the night....

Oh yes they could. Probably policy to avoid road ragers from tracking someone down. And they probably will have a talk with him, and hopefully the other drivers too; an occasional reminder does those who spend a lot of time on the road some good. Glad you called him in.

    How was the movie?

We have commuter vans that travel to and from work. One day on the way home one of them pulled out right out in front of me. Then he proceeded to speed at least 65 in a 35 then a 55 then a 45 zone. This is with a van full of people. You can bet when I got behind him at a light I wrote down all the info and emailed the company. They were grateful for the information. They are liable for any accidents that the driver would have had while driving the van.

Quite a few companies take traffic safety very seriously. They don't want to be liable if one of their drivers does something stupid.

In fact, I reported someone in a company van, after being cut off by said van *twice* while driving to work. Topping things off, the van then blew through a red light...and came within *inches* of T-boning a school bus After seeing that, I made it a point to get the van's unit number. Once I arrived at work, I emailed the company's safety director, and let them know what happened. By the end of the day, I got a reply saying that the company was investigating the matter, had suspended the driver (without pay), and appreciated that I took the time to report the asshole. Next day, I got another email from the company again thanking me...and telling me that the guy had been fired.

Seems that it wasn't the first time he'd been driving like that, and once they pulled the vehicle logs, my email was the last nail in the coffin. They'd put up with him, but the school bus incident was the last straw. They weren't about to risk a lawsuit if he was to hit someone.

I've even seen an incident where a SCHOOL BUS blew through a yield sign on the way home from work one afternoon. Mom had to slam on the brakes to keep from rear-ending the thing!

I made a note of the bus number and when we got home, Mom called the nearby elementary school to see if it was one of their buses - turned out it was. She told what had happened and they said they'd look into it, but she didn't hear anything back from it.

Sad when a school that's supposed to take safety seriously doesn't.
